Over to Leslie: We knew we wanted to do something a little untraditional without breaking the bank. After searching throughout the city for a venue that suited us, we returned to Evan’s hometown, a quiet little riverfront town, to regroup. Though a wedding had never been done there, we both felt like the downtown farmers’ market would be a perfect backdrop for the relaxed and quirky vibe we were going for.

To play up on the farmers’ market theme, my mother made burlap table squares and we used potted herbs and fresh flowers for the centre pieces.

Evan’s aunts added a casual elegance to the pavilion by decorating it with gold Christmas lights.
All the help we received from family and friends pitching in made everything feel so special. We wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time, so we had snacks at every table and a trunk full of board games.

Picking what to wear for a farmers’ market wedding was tricky. We didn’t want to seem overly stuffy for the venue, but we certainly wanted to look sharp, so Evan chose grey tuxedos, feeling black would be too harsh.

I finally settled on a lovely Swiss polka dot dress by Melissa Sweet. It was a fun dress with a classic shape and fit the mood of the wedding perfectly.

For the wedding party, I wanted my girls to feel comfortable, so I chose the colour and fabric of their dresses and let them chose the style they liked best.

I had a lot of fun with the groomsmen, picking out ties and silly socks to match each of their personalities. I lucked out and found a white tie with polka dots for my groom too!

The day itself was photographed by the lovely and talented Angela Lamb of Artistic Soup Photography, St Louis. She was the easiest thing about the whole wedding! Evan and I felt so comforted by her, we knew she’d be able to capture our day better than anyone else.

We met with Joe of Joe’s Bakery to discuss cake and were so impressed by him that we booked him for our cake and catering services. He provided us with a lovely buffet with fresh and in-season items. We didn’t want a fancy cake, so I purchase a cute cake topper from Etsy.com and he made a small, simple cake for us, and a nice spread of cheesecake, carrot cake and chocolate cake for our guests.

The day itself flew by, just as we’d been warned it would! It was a little rainy and a little cooler than we’d have liked, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a great time.
