Brides Up North Featured Supplier Andy Garfitt of Greyeye Photography sent Brides Up North this stunning Real Wedding this Easter weekend. Better than an Easter egg in my opinion!

This is the second wedding to have taken place at Holdsworth House and featured on Brides Up North recently, which just shows how diverse this gorgeous venue can be. Andy and Rachel, today’s beautiful bride, talk us through it…

Rachel: Paul and I met in Lincoln and had been together about 8 years before he proposed. He was hoping to use my car to go and collect the ring but I’d had other ideas and bumped it into a wall so he had to get a train and walk for 2 miles! I’d never thought what our wedding day would be like so spent a small fortune on wedding magazines to get ideas and work out where we wanted to spend the money, they don’t tell you about putting that in the budget!

Venue and photography last the longest so they were our priority. We looked at venues first and fell in love with Holdsworth House, who were also the nicest people. Then we looked at photographers- Andy is a lovely chap who met us at our house with a very, very large bag of wedding albums showing his style of photography, (which was good because we’d met with other photographers who just seemed to be trying to sell fancy albums instead of their skills!) It was just what we wanted, and he was a nice chap which helped as he would be around all day!

Andy: Well, I’m not going to argue with that. Rach got ready at her Mum’s house which is just round the corner from where they live, very handy, and we started off there with some very relaxed bridal preparations.

Andy: Although it all got a bit much for some.

Andy: But there’s nothing a banana can’t fix.

Andy : Just time for a few detail shots…

Andy: Then on with the dress.
.
Rachel: I got my wedding dress (after trying on a fair few on some of the hottest days of the year) from Emily Bridal on Eccleshall Road in Sheffield, Emily is lovely and knew exactly what would suit me before I did. I didn’t have to trail through rail after rail of dresses, she simply asked what I had tried on and what I didn’t like from what I’d seen, she then picked out 4 for me to try on, the last one being the one I bought.

Rachel: The most exciting purchase for me though was for my wedding shoes, I saw row after row of white and cream shoes and knew I wanted something a little bit special, which is why I opted for 6 inch purple glittery heels (and I had them on most of the day too!!) I found them after seeing Paloma Faith wear some similar ones on a magazine shoot, a few clicks on the internet later and they were being shipped to me from America (I didn’t tell my Gran they were from a burlesque shop at the time!)

Rachel: The day itself was a lot calmer then I was expecting, and I was surprisingly calm as well. Everything happened round me, including my young nieces playing, hair being done, doing make-up, toasting some croissants and drinking lots of champagne. I could have been ready hours earlier than I needed to be!

Andy: Yep, it all went very smoothly and Rachel looked stunning.

Andy: Paul and the boys were doing pretty well too, apart from the usual confusion over cravats, obviously.

Rachel: There were plenty of giggles (albeit nervous) by the time I got to Holdsworth House so I had to take a few moments to compose myself! There was no rushing about though and everyone at Holdsworth (especially Tracy the coordinator and Andy of course) were totally in control, which meant I didn’t worry about a thing, I knew they would have everything covered and it didn’t even cross my mind to be bothered about any details.

Andy: A few minutes later, you may now kiss the bride. Hurray!

Andy: Lots of congratulations over a few drinks and nibbles and then we had chance to do the group shots and some Bride and Groom portraits.

Andy: Then back into the reception for the speeches and the wedding breakfast.
.
Rachel: We toyed with various ideas for wedding favours as there is plenty of choice out there. It was Paul who spotted that Cancer Research can provide pin badges and cards as wedding favours for a donation. This was quite apt for us because I had lost my dad to cancer when I was 17 and wanted there to be some way of including him in the day.

Andy: Then it was time for the speeches! There were plenty of laughs…

Andy: …there may have even been a few tears
.

Andy: Food scoffed, there was chance for one more quick night time portrait, Paul and Rachel were brave enough to venture out into the cold.

Andy: Then it was time to hit the dance floor!

.
Rachel: Everyone boogied the night away and it may sound like a cliché but it was everything I expected without expecting it! A good day full of family and friends all having a good time…And looking back at the photos it reminds me of the little things I’d forgotten (like cringing at Paul’s embarrassing speech!)
