This fabulous Diamond Jubilee themed bridal inspiration shoot sent to me by Helen of Bespoken Dreams and Vicky of Victoria Rose Vintage Crockery Hire has left me feeling all patriotic this morning, and thinking back to Royal Wedding fever almost exactly a year ago.

.

This is a shoot organised as a joint collaboration by all the suppliers at The Wedding House in Liverpool – and don’t they pull together well? I think we British are ready for another party, aren’t we?  I’d perhaps advise holding back on a full on Rule Britannia theme (complete with red, white and blue ruffles) for your big day, but go on… it’s a bit of fun!  Be inspired…

Vicky says: The idea for a collaborative photo shoot came about after myself, Jan (Calidad Creations), Debbie (Miss Bouquets) and Natalie (Half Dozen Designs) were chatting about how nice it would be to work together. I had recently worked on a 1940’s “Grow your Own Wedding” themed photo shoot with Lucy of Lucy G Photography, so I suggested contacting Lucy to see if she was interested in collaborating.

Following on from the "Stay Calm" Iconic poster we’d used in the 1940’s shoot, I thought that the upcoming Diamond Jubilee would be a great topical theme. It was also a perfect excuse to use my gorgeous blue and white china tea set that I had been given by my Grandma.

Of course because the Jubilee celebrations were coming up in June I had to move fast and get everyone organised if we were hoping to get published before then! It took six weeks from the initial idea to the shoot!  It was just like organising an actual wedding as all the same suppliers were needed including a bride and groom! I was like "Challenge Annika" minus the helicopter!

I’m glad we moved so quickly as it seems that the week after we had finished the shoot the country has gone Jubilee crazy. Even Marks and Spencer used some of our ideas in their TV ad. There are so many shops stocking all kinds of merchandise in red, white and blue and this of course follows onto the Olympics. We really seemed to hit on an upcoming trend and the sense of patriotism in the country is starting to build just like it did for the Royal Wedding in 2011. As we are all Great British businesses the theme was also very personal and hit a note with all involved.

I wanted to do something different to the usual sit down around a table but it had to be something that readers could imagine themselves doing at their own wedding. So many photo shoots concentrate on what looks good on camera: I’ve seen a wedding breakfast set up on an old large wooden swing which looks arty and whimsical but isn’t really possible to transfer into most weddings. We had three options on the day that could all be used practically in any wedding venue, date or theme.

.

The first was a street party. Using our colour scheme of red, white and blue with lashings of ginger beer, punch, British puddings and bunting. The second idea was an old fashioned picnic using a 1950’s picnic hamper of mine and some great deck chairs from Lucy: a nice informal way to celebrate your day perfect for a summer garden party wedding. The venue was amazing and had a bandstand with a view of the Mersey and Liverpool skyline. We used this to host an elegant afternoon tea perfect in any setting or venue. Afternoon tea can be served in place of a traditional three course meal or canapés. It can take a wedding into a different era of elegance and is certainly becoming the next big thing.

As any bride will know you just can’t control the weather. It affects the date we pick, dress we wear, venue and of course photographs! We picked the Isla Gladstone for its beautiful Glass House and grounds mindful of all the lovely light we would still get on a rainy Tuesday in March. Oh, how we were wrong! The day of the shoot was a sunny record breaker with burnt noses aplenty. Everyone said how wonderful it was to have such glorious weather but Lucy nearly shed a tear at the blinding sunlight, I’m sure every photographer, amateur or professional will understand just how hard it is to work in dazzling sunlight but Lucy overcame the problems and produced some amazing photographs.

We all enjoyed the photo shoot immensely and using a shared concept and pooling our designs and expertise certainly proved you can plan an amazing wedding in six weeks using suppliers all under one roof especially if that roof is on The Wedding House.
