This afternoon on the blog we’re heading to the beautiful north east coastline for styled shoot that is both bold and beautiful.
Styled and shot by fine art photographer Kimberley Waterson, the concept of the shoot was to steer clear of obvious nautical themes and instead inject some warm colour to contrast with the cool and stark surroundings.
To help bring her vision to life Kimberley teamed up with a talented group of north east suppliers who took care of everything from the attire and décor to the cakes and flowers.

Living in the beautiful north of England we sometimes overlook the beauty spots so very accessible to us and it was having this in mind that inspired this styled shoot.
Surrounded by miles of breath-taking coastline I started my journey scouting locations. I knew I wanted to view Marsden Rock first as this iconic location brings in people from all around the world and is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the north east.
Owned by the National Trust and overlooked by the Marsden Grotto (a pub/restaurant and soon to be wedding venue) we knew Marsden Rock would be a busy place to shoot and so decided to do the shoot on a Monday, though the unpredictable British weather certainly kept us on our toes.
My background as a Royal Air Force photographer paired with my fine art photography degree has prepared me and inspired me in many different ways. I love using natural light to create my work and love the romantic and soft feel I get from using both digital and analogue cameras.
When it came to choosing suppliers to help bring my vision for the shoot to life I called upon the services of all north east based businesses.
Vintage at Number 18 supplied me with amazing dresses and even let me venture into the sea with one. The owner Lynne finds little treasures and simply exquisite vintage and one-of-a-kind original wedding dresses. I have used Lynne’s dresses many times before as they are unlike others out there and I like things to be a little bit different.
For our suits I used Master Debonair, who are all about effortless style, bringing together a collection of clothes and accessories for the modern British gentleman at their East Boldon store.
Myself and Amber from The Vintage Wedding Company – who also supplied the stationery – handled the styling of the shoot. As the setting was coastal I was keen to stay away from the typical nautical theme and bring in some colour. I have a weird fondness of all things gold so there was no chance of leaving it out on this one. My idea was to have an imitate beach wedding with stunning views and romantics notes.
I made the table for the set myself at home and painted in grey to bring out the colours in the accessories and also the amazing cakes created by Sadie May Cakes.
Karen at Ruby Tuesday Events supplied the stunning flowers. I wanted them to bring in warm colours to contrast to the cold sea. We went with wild and flowing and Karen got it 100% on point.
The amazing headpiece we used for this shoot was made especially for me by talented fashion designer Kathryn Russell, who creates couture bridal. Her work is simply breathtaking and I knew I needed her on board for this shoot to give the images a little edge.
The models I used were picked specifically for skin tone and hair colour and I could not have been happier with the outcome.
Their hair was styled by the fabulous Katie Rouse of Keep It Pinned. Wild, big and a little messy is what I asked for, and is exactly what I got! Katie is a fantastic hair dresser and she even had the fun of trimming ‘groom’ Chris’s beard.
Kelly Vaughan took care of the makeup and produced amazing work as always. She knows my love for gold so we decided to do a dramatic gold eye and add in some gold leaf too.
The day of the shoot was fantastic though we did have to cut it a little short as we managed to get a sunny day but was at risk of our lovely models getting burnt. All in all I love this shoot and hope the images reflect this.
