Are you ready to go all-out classic Yorkshire wedding? Of course you are!
Local and homegrown is the order of the day for today’s lovely couple, and we’ve got plenty of pretty white florals, pops of pale pink and gold, romantic candles, magical fairy lights, cosy fire pits and a memorable sparkler exit!
Today we’re hearing the love story of Camilla and Ed (and Drake the Labrador!). Having met in London and then realised they were both from the same little village in Yorkshire, it made sense for these two love birds to return home and get married in their hometown in a marquee. As Camilla explains, there are a couple of things to watch out for when you’re planning to get married in a marquee but, if you can pull it off, it can really be something special.
Not going with a traditional venue means you can really go to town on your styling, and our couple certainly have! We’re seeing so many beautiful floral arrangements and, in particular, the huge foliage halo wreath hanging in the centre of the marquee is to die for. We’ve got all the pretty, romantic details, from styling up the ladies’ dressing room for the morning’s preparations, to how much of a difference a good wedding band can make. Sound like your kind of thing? Then read on!

Proposal
Camilla says
: We got engaged on 22nd August 2018. Ed proposed on Timble moor while we were on a dog walk, with our two-year-old fun-loving Labrador, Drake! Ed and I met five years ago, in London but we both grew up in Yorkshire and it was a great coincidence to find out our family live only ten minutes away from each other! So, moving back to Yorkshire was a no brainer!Setting
We were married on the 20th of July 2019, hoping for a nice warm day with some sun! Which we did get eventually, with a beautiful sunset!
We always knew we wanted a marquee wedding with an epic Yorkshire view, in our home village of Askwith! A quaint little church down the road, in Denton, was ideal to create the intimate ceremony that we wanted.
Theme
Our theme was ‘classic Yorkshire wedding’! A small country wedding with our close friends and family. We ordered the smallest marquee we could for 100 people, to create a buzzing atmosphere! We wanted to just have an epic Yorkshire party; we had a brass band for reception drinks and the main aim was to have everyone on the dancefloor (and our amazing band achieved that!). The colour scheme we chose was white and pale pastel pink/ mink with a hint of gold.
Dress
I wore a Mark Lesely dress, but we changed it a lot. My edits were done by the fantastic Joana, at Joana’s Bridal Boutique in Harrogate.
I loved the detailing on the back, but didn’t want sleeves, so Joana removed the sleeves and added in some more detail to the front and sides! We also changed the buttons from pearls to fabric covered buttons!
Ed and I decided he wouldn’t have a ring, but we got my engagement ring and wedding ring from the amazing Ogden’s in Harrogate. We loved the experience and highly recommend them!
Groomsmen
Ed’s morning suit was by Brook Taverner, his tie with hares on was by Cording’s and he wore Consul Oxford shoes by Church’s Shoes.
The groomsmen all wore morning suits. Some were hired from Eric Spencer in Ilkley, along with matching Cording’s hare ties like the groom!
Bridesmaids
My girls all wore the Regent Cream Soda dress by Maids to Measure, purchased from Sophie Likes in Harrogate.
I bought the bridesmaids some alpaca socks for our cold stone floors in our cottage, and white linen shirts with their initials on to get ready on. We got them Chanel Chance perfume so they would all have a scent to remember the day by.
The page boys wore outfits from Amelia Brennan.
Beauty
Daryl Shipp did our makeup; she works for Charlotte Tilbury makeup in Leeds and freelances for weddings. Sacha Jones, from LS29 Hair in Ilkley, did our hair.
Both were fantastic and dealt well with various bridesmaids disappearing up to the marquee to do last minute jobs!
Transport
We hired a gorgeous Rolls Royce from West Yorkshire Wedding Cars. Our driver, Duncan, was great, he was calm and easy going, and even took us up onto Timble moor for a detour to get some photos.
Photographer
We had Lyndsey Doran Photography behind the lens. She was so great to have around on the day.
Styling
Paperwhite Flowers were just fabulous. Wendy is so generous with her time and went through everything with such fantastic attention to detail. She is also incredibly talented with her flower arranging. She did an arrangement above the church door, with a variety of different roses, delphiniums, larkspur, stocks, scabious, olive, eucalyptus. We also had a hand tie of a white hydrangea and foliage attached with an ivory organza to each pew end.
Wendy made a huge 1.7m hanging floral wreath for us, for the middle of the marquee, to create an impact. We split the reception and dancefloor with a reveal curtain to make the space even smaller and intimate for dinner. Each table was candle lit with a unique table arrangement for each table. We had different rings of coordinating flowers a glass storm lantern and chapel candle within some table arrangements all surrounded by fluted glass tea light holders containing clear cup tea lights. We loved our charger plates with a gold rim from Whitehouse Crockery. We had each menu with the guest’s name on slotted into each napkin!
I carried a natural hand tied bouquet of Roses, Spray Roses in white and porcelain white, Hydrangea, Thlaspi, Jasmine and Eucalyptus. We had long ribbons coming off the bouquets and the bridesmaids had pastel pink ribbons that matched with their dress. This also tied in with some of the pale pink roses in the table decorations.
We used Forge Events to hire some beautiful bits for our ladies’ dressing room! The dressing table was positioned around the corner from the loos so ladies could do their makeup and hair in peace! And Silk Beau did our gorgeous invites.
We created a gin bar and an outside area around the large tree next to the marquee with fairy lights and seating, along with log fire pits. At the end of the night we lit up the sky with a sparkler exit to leave an impact!
Favours
Ed and I foraged our own elderflower, rhubarb and sloes from Askwith to make homemade mini shot bottles of gin as favours.
Cake
We had a semi-naked Victoria sponge cake because it Ed’s favourite! It was made by Roslyn Scott from Cakes By Design and decorated by our florist, Paperwhite Flowers.
Dining
Our food was by Dusty Miller Catering. We had retro prawn cocktail with a lime and basil sorbet topped with a quail’s egg with warm artisan breads and unsalted butter. For mains we served deconstructed rare breed beef wellington, with a medley of summer vegetables and new potatoes parsley and chives. Then for dessert we had a trio of dark chocolate cheesecake and white chocolate cheesecake along with hazelnut meringue and fresh fruits.
Our Champagne was Laurent Perrier from Majestic and wines were by Amanda Sutcliffe at Corney & Barrow. We had C&B White Burgundy Maison Auvigue 2017 and Cote du Ventoux Rouge Famille Perrin 2018.
Entertainment
Rebekka, one of our wedding guests, did an amazing solo on her saxophone in the church while we were signing the register. Then LB Brass Band played during the reception drinks.
Then we had Truly Medley Deeply for the evening. They created the most insane party with just two of them! We had so many people coming up to us afterward wanting their contact details for their own wedding! We heard them at one of my best friends’ weddings the year before!
Thanks to
Having a marquee in your home village is so special. Now we can walk past the spot where we had our wedding every day and remember with such fond memories! Not to mention the view!
One downside is, a marquee as a venue can cause additional stress due to the unpredictability of the weather! Sadly, the gazebo that the brass band were going to play under during reception drinks, blew away while we were at the church! On a positive note, only about an hour into the reception we started to see blue sky and we did get an epic sunset!
I also ordered loos too big to fit inside the marquee! All the lining had to be manually secured, which took up most of our time the day before!
Best bit
The vows were so special. Just having everyone that we love there to watch us get married.
After our ceremony we went up to Timble Moor (our proposal spot) for a very wild photoshoot! It was incredibly windy but that created some very fun shots! It was so lovely to just be with Ed (and our lovely photographer!) in our favourite place, on the moor top.
Honeymoon
We went on a minimoon to Tuscany; we took a day trip to Siena and explored the gorgeous countryside in a car we hired. Some of our friends bought us a wine tasting and a cookery course. So, we ate and drank amazing wine and food!
We are going on a longer honeymoon to Patagonia, to go trekking, this December! We love this as it gives us something to look forward to.
Advice
My advice for other Brides Up North would be to enjoy every moment, as it goes so quickly. If you’re having a marquee wedding, I would get a wedding planner to be there on the day to help minimise any stresses that may come up unexpectedly, and make sure all the small details that you’ve spent forever planning are done to the standard you want.
When planning our day, I enjoyed using Brides Up North to get inspiration on the small details of the wedding that I would have never thought of!
