Wild Thing – A Safari Inspired Wedding Shoot at Bunny Hill

Alexis Forsyth

Accents of shimmering gold and iconic leopard print blend together beautifully in today’s creative shoot at Bunny Hill in York for a wedding look that’s uber sophisticated and outlandish in equal measure.

Palm leaves, tropical greenery and bold prints set the scene for this exquisite take on an urban jungle, with the venue’s stunning woodlands providing the most perfect of backdrops to this contemporary theme. Who knew leopard patterns could be so endearing on your big day?

There’s a fabulous array of textures and styling touches to really bring the space to life, think romantic candles and wicker holders complimented by a rustic tablescape of wooden plates, gleaming gold cutlery and polka dot runners. And let’s not forget about the smattering of coconuts in keeping with the tropical-ness of it all.

But it’s the tortoise and puppy we’ve truly fallen for – a reminder that your family pets can also play a starring role in your nuptials!

Inspiration

The team say: We wanted to use an ever-changing fashion trend, such as iconic leopard print, and bring it into a beautifully themed wedding shoot, making it both accessible and wearable for any contemporary bride. This was done by using neutral colours and golds, which can easily be incorporated into any wedding, and by showcasing leopard patterns that compliment this cool wedding style.

Location

We chose UNVEILED Network Member Bunny Hill in Yorkshire as not only is it super luxurious, but it’s also based over two levels with plenty of photo opportunities, including an upper bar with a piano and stunning views over the large barn reception room below.

The grounds are secluded, with woodland and a stunning outdoor archway which were great for the tropical theme. The venue’s name – Bunny Hill – worked with the animal-inspired concept too, and we even used our own pets in the shoot.

Styling

We focused on neutral colour palettes with beiges, airy creams and luxury golds to contrast with the out-there leopard print.

Ivy Lane Florist used florals with palm leaves, tropical greens and white orchids hand-tied into the bouquet, on the moon gate for the ceremony set up, and on the half arch over the trestle table set up.

The team at UNVEILED Network Member BelleBijoux used a range of candles and wicker holders to create an urban jungle theme featuring different textures, including wooden charger plates, polka dot table runners and leopard print napkins.

We featured a range of before, and on the day, stationery with deckled edges and gold leaf in leopard print from the award-winning UNVEILED Network Member Ivy Alice Stationery. The guest table names were lined with neutral leopard print and featured white tassels, meanwhile the drinks and table menus also complemented the theme and styling. We had contemporary acrylic signage and canvas cloth too, adorned with calligraphy style ‘wild thing’ wording.

The most incredible all-white standing cake with four tiers, handmade with sugar crafted orchids and splashed with edible gold leaf, was supplied by the talented Grace Eva Cakes.

Other styling touches were supplied by The Instant Photobooth, Bable and Pop the Love.

Attire

We decided less would be more with the dress, and wanted to stick to plain and simple due to the complexity of the shoot’s concept. We chose one boho style dress, one silk gown with a high neck, and another super sexy, fitted dress to compliment our model Olivia’s shape, all supplied by UNVEILED Network Member Osh Gosh Gowns. This also allowed the colours from the floral set ups to truly pop. We also featured a hand-crafted veil from UNVEILED Network Member Rebecca Anne Designs.

Beauty

UNVEILED Network Member Jen of The Wildflower Hair Company created two different boho jungle-inspired styles, with loose waves and unstructured pieces to show off a laid-back vibe, or a style you would wear in hot weather. Jen provided a second hairstyle comprising two stunning plaits which looked effortlessly beautiful. Both of these looks would appeal to either a boho or destination bride.

Results

The shoot was perfect on the day. It was so relaxed and fun, and was all about being creative and coming together as one incredible team.

Each artisan supplier created their individual elements, and once brought together, it was show stoppingly beautiful.

One of the main highlights was incorporating our own pets into the shoot – Alfie the tortoise and Belle the puppy. Pets are such a huge part of our lives and it was great to show brides and grooms how you can involve your pets in your wedding day. Alfie also wanted to run off a few times – he is surprisingly fast for a tortoise!
