Windswept and in love as today’s featured happy couple celebrate their engagement with a shoot in the Peak District and talk us through their own special love story…
We’re smitten with the personal and simple proposal style that Alex went for when he knew he wanted to propose to his beloved Holly (with his Grandma’s diamonds no less) dragging her up a mountain as soon as the restrictions on staying home were lifted in May 2020, having packed a picnic and some G&Ts for the celebration.
The couple then won a photoshoot competition that photographer, Laura of Miss Whittington’s Photography, was running on Instagram last year, which became a lovely celebration of their new engagement. It took place on an extremely warm evening in August and the beautiful, hazy sunset light looks absolutely dreamy captured in these treasured shots! Joined by Ivy the dog, the trio headed along Bamford Edge and got some gorgeous shots amongst the heather, whilst the sun went down over Ladybower Reservoir below them. Idyllic indeed!

Proposal
Holly says: We were supposed to be on holiday in May last year but obviously Covid stopped those plans. Boris had just lifted restrictions on staying local for walks and we had a few days off work so headed up to the Howgills for a walk. I was a little suspicious; Alex had dressed up a bit for the walk and it was our seven year anniversary so did my nails ‘just in case’. I think he almost changed his mind once he realised how steep the Howgills are but in the end he popped the question at the top, where we celebrated with G&Ts and a picnic. The ring was really special as he’d been given the diamonds from one of his grandma’s old rings and designed the rest himself.
Big Day
Our wedding will be one of the churches that I grew up going to, St Barnabas in Weeton. We’ll have as many friends and family as allowed and then head to East Keswick Village Hall. There’ve been so many occasions and get-togethers missed so it would be amazing if we do manage to get everyone in the same space.
How We Met
We met eight years ago at Sheffield University. I was organising the Engineering Ball with his friend Andy. Alex joined us on a few nights out and the rest is history
First Date
I suppose technically our first date was the Ball! He asked to go with me, but we had spent the day together setting it up and I got ready in his car!
We both don’t have one defining moment when we knew this was The One! But it’s always been really easy between us and always felt right. Buying our first house together three years ago was a big moment for us as a couple though. It has been a lot of work to get it to be a nice place to spend our time together!
What We Love Most
I love knowing I can always depend on him. He is so supportive with everything I do. He says he loves my eyes and smile best!
About The Shoot
We had entered a competition with Laura and were lucky enough to win! Because we couldn’t have an engagement party or even a small get together with both sides of the family, it was a great way to celebrate officially and share with my family who live in France and Spain.
It was one of those gorgeous balmy August evenings. The Peaks are really special to us as we did a lot of walking there when we first started going out, but we’d somehow never seen those views before it was amazing.
Wedding Planning
After Covid it will be so special to have everyone there together, there’s loads of friends and family we haven’t seen for over a year. Oh and we can’t wait to have a dance! And we would tell another couple who’s about to start planning their wedding in the midst of a pandemic that it’s not as bad as you think it will be having to plan it all online or via email!
Wish For Married Life
We’re really lucky to have an amazing life with our two dogs and a horse but I think expanding our family in the future is something we’re excited about doing after the wedding.
