Citrus Garden: A Styled Wedding Inspiration Shoot at Hutton Wandesley Stables

Sarah Symonds

Grab yourself an Aperol Spritz! Let today’s styled shoot whisk you away to endless days of summer perfection on the Amalfi coast, with an abundance of bright oranges and lemons, a cool blue and white Mediterranean palette and a pretty al fresco romance blossoming…

Sustainability is a hot topic these days and the wedding industry is no exception. Everyone’s trying to think of ways to do their bit. When organising this shoot, Kristie and rest of the the team behind the concept were keen to keep that as a focus.

With a who’s-who hit list of only the most local of suppliers, exclusively pre-loved and eco-friendly hire pieces and flowers cut fresh from the gardens, this styling is nailing it. Even those lovely little finishing touches you see in the tablescape were from a charity shop and give the perfect Amalfi vibe, with the floral blue and yellow tablecloth and matching napkins, and glassware overflowing with lemons, clementines and dried citrus slices.

Those of you in the process of planning your own big day might be excited to know that this shoot was created to celebrate the news that Black Event Furniture have joined forces with EPH Creative to launch a new wedding packages range! This means they’re now offering a one-stop-shop for couples needing furniture, props and styling. So if you’re inspired by any of the images from the shoot, it couldn’t be easier to recreate the vibe for your own day!

Kristie said: We wanted to show how brides could bring a touch of the Mediterranean to their summer, outdoor wedding. Taking inspiration from Amalfi coast weddings to bring citrus fruits, blue and white tiling, Italian cocktails and a warm, romantic vibe. So, the theme was citrus garden but showcasing three different ceremony ideas, different table settings and interesting ways to dress the cake area, welcome signs and table plan.

LOCATION

I came across Hutton Wandesley Stables at an open day in April and immediately fell in love with it. The botanicum was a beautiful space with masses of natural light, leading out onto the walled garden filled with an amazing array of florals. Nestled in the corner of the walled garden is a beautiful greenhouse. I thought it was the perfect venue to showcase the three different styles of ceremonies.

The walled gardens not only look stunning but a waft of lavender fills the air, while the iron arbour in the centre is the obvious central point for an outdoor ceremony. The greenhouse offered another area for an intimate wedding and the perfect opportunity to have lots of lemons and foliage, and the botanicum then brought the outside in, with orange trees and a more rustic look.

STYLING

We wanted to bring the outdoors in, so think lemon and orange trees, lots of foliage, seasonal florals – all proudly hire pieces from EPH Creative making them a sustainable and cost-effective choice. We also used fresh flowers from the walled garden so that the bouquet tied in with the beautiful surroundings, again an eco-friendly choice. The Mediterranean styled tiled plinths were the inspiration behind the cake and the stationery, which also featured citrus fruits. We used an ornate metal screen to hang the welcome sign and seating plan as an interesting alternative to an easel.

At Black Event Furniture, we have an enormous range of furniture, so we chose beech folding chairs for the outdoor ceremony which were in keeping with the surroundings and gave a Mediterranean feel. Ghost chairs were the choice for the green house for a more contemporary look and to accentuate the glass windows. The botanicum lent itself to a more rustic vibe so we went with cross back chairs, a circular pallet backdrop with orange half moon gate and copper lanterns. Paul, our super talented EPH Creative stylist and florist, elevated every area with his magic touch for styling, creating floral displays and putting together finishing touches.

Leanne from Sheaf Stationery made beautiful creations, she totally got the brief and I loved her designs and the green leaf place names that we stuck to real lemons! The amazing cake from Scrumb Cakes followed the same idea and featured the tiles, orange and lemon slices and beautiful leaf details.

ATTIRE

Limelight Occasions have an amazing selection of bridal wear and suits. The Essence of Australia gown I chose was stunning, with delicate leaf detailing which went perfectly with our theme, detachable sleeves and off the shoulder made it look super romantic. Finishing touches were hair accessories from Ariana Bespoke and a Tulle & Flo veil with pearl details.

The suit and waistcoat featured were by Peter Posh. The combination of light blue tweed and pale beige double breasted waistcoat went perfectly with the colour scheme. The floral tie and handkerchief complemented the groom’s look.

BEAUTY

We wanted to keep it natural and romantic, enhancing Heather’s tones. Her gorgeous, thick red hair meant Amiee Grant was able to create a beautiful braided and tousled half up, half down style which looked amazing! Sarah Atkinson then enhanced Heather’s natural beauty using colours that suited her skin tone and hair colour but kept it natural enough to see her freckles through.

RESULTS

The shoot went wonderfully, the weather was just right and the venue was the ideal backdrop. Heather and Alex looked amazing in their wedding attire and all suppliers involved really exceeded my expectations with what they created so I was super happy! Although hard work setting up 3 different areas (I did 18000 steps running around and my feet were blistered at the end of the day) but all was well worth it. I feel we pulled together and created exactly what I’d hoped for and more!
