Over to the bride: Edinburgh was the easiest choice for us as it has a deep meaning to both of us. For Greg is was for his military history and life he spent there and for me it was where Greg proposed the year before.

The shoes were the first thing I actually managed to sort out (shoes are a girl’s best friend after all) so I needed the dress to go with them not the other way round! I found THE ONE with Pronovias at Harrods.

Our florist, Maxwell, was extremely kind and attentive and understood exactly what the flowers should be like.

The theme was always to make it simple and elegant, Greg and I are not into over the top extravaganza.

The idea behind the Bridesmaid dresses was: they need to be able to use those dresses again, it needs to be elegant and original. And we found the perfect one with All Saints, a very original black dress (a Vivienne Westwood type of design) that I asked each of them to accessorise with their own personalities.

The way we found the church has a deep meaning especially to me as we found it on Easter weekend 2010. Greg, his father and I were meant to go to Edinburgh and find the church but Greg got called up to leave and serve in Afghanistan a week earlier so he wasn’t there for a lot of the preparation (although I tried to involve him as much as i could). The church was found by chance and the kindness of one of the fathers at the church just made it an easy choice.

The venue for the reception was a bit more tricky, we didn’t want to spend thousands to rent a place that wouldn’t be us. I looked around and found the Glasshouse Hotel, a superb boutique hotel that offered a great value for money and a staff that was top class. They were incredibly attentive and caring all along from the preparation to the day itself.

Although there was no ‘theme’ per say I think we ended up without realising it organising a 1920’s wedding feel. I think that the motto for the wedding was we want it to be personal and after having a really hard year we wanted it to be us and have the special friends and family around us for the day.

The organisation was an emotional rollercoaster ride but the day was perfect everything went extremely smoothly and we are married and very happily so!
