Happy hump day everyone! Today’s first dose of pretty on this wedding blog comes to you from Northumberland in the form of Gillian & Dave’s Real Wedding. Their classically elegant day was caught on camera by Image Newcastle and made into a gorgeous movie by the ever talented Steven at Forever Film.
.
Gillian & Dave actually found Forever Film via Brides Up North so it is my pleasure to welcome them to these swirly silver pages today. If you do one thing this morning, watch this video – it really brings their day to life! Enjoy.

Let’s hear from Gillian: Dave asked me to marry him on a stormy night in a private viewing room at the top of the Baltic Art Gallery on July 13th 2010. We married on August 13th 2011 at Doxford Hall in Northumberland. 13 has become a lucky number for us!

We picked Doxford Hall because we needed somewhere that was geographically in the middle for both of our families as the majority of my family is in Scotland and the majority of Dave’s in Cheshire. This was perfect! I call Northumberland home and Dave has been based up here with his job in the Air Force for a few years so it was the natural place to be. We wanted a country house feel but modern at the same time and from the moment we visited Doxford we were blown away by the whole setting. The grounds were perfect and the hotel itself simply stunning! Add to this the service by Leanne the wedding coordinator and we couldn’t have picked a better venue! We went for a vintage country garden theme, with lots of sage green and pink.

I wore Geneva by Maggie Sottero which I finally found after many weeks of hunting for a dress! I loved it from the moment I saw it on another girl trying it on in the shop on the day I bought it. I bought it at The White Tulip Wedding Company in Prudhoe who gave the most lost bride to be the biggest smile on her face!
.
My bridesmaids all wore different dresses but in the same colour of celadon green by Dessy and they were bought from Mia Sposa Bridal & Menswear in Newcastle.
.
I carried a bouquet of hydrangeas, David Austen roses and rosemary by The Flower Barn and my bridesmaids each had a simple bouquet of cream roses.

To add personal touches to our day, I am Scottish and my mum had made a request for a bit of Scotland in our theme. Unfortunately the theme we had in mind didn’t really allow for this so we hired the wonderful North East Piper to pipe the cars up the driveway as a surprise. We also used homemade strawberry and champagne jam and brown ale chutney with fudge for our favours which were made by Dave with the assistance of the wonderful Sandy at Fourway Foods (My dad is the business development manager for local food producers) and Kenspeckle.

Lucy Bewley played on piano for our ceremony, I walked down the aisle to Florence and the Machine Cosmic Love which Lucy played beautifully.

We chose an unusual green cake from For Goodness Cakes after meeting Jenn at a wedding fair. It was so different and tasted amazing, we decided on a layer of Victoria sponge a layer of carrot cake and a layer of lemon drizzle. All of the cake was eaten on the day and evening it was that good.
.
We were entertained by the wonderful Chameleon Music in the evening and the dance floor was never empty

We honeymooned in Bali and Singapore.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be stop for a moment on the day and take it all on in it really is true that the day goes so quickly! Also read wedding blogs they are a great source of inspiration!
.
{Thanks for that last tip Gillian!}

.
Congratulations Gillian & Dave!
