I’m really happy to share today’s success story with you. Back in January, I was lucky enough to meet Leeds General Infirmary doctor Sarah Marsh, who was on a crusade to raise money for a charity very close to her heart. Her idea: a wedding dress ball.
.
Soon Dine Services (who I am proud to work with on the Brides Up North Wedding Exclusives in Yorkshire) were on board and the date was set of mid May at beautiful Leeds wedding venue (and location for my shows and next week’s wedding industry Tweet Up) The Mansion.
.
I know that Sarah put her heart and soul into planning this event, whilst working full time as a busy doctor, so I am so thrilled for her that the event was such a success. Some fabulous Yorkshire wedding industry suppliers also gave up their time to make the day really special. Well done to everyone involved and especially to Sarah: you are an absolute star!

Sarah says: The event was held at The Mansion in Leeds at the end of May of this year. The ball was held in aid of The Willow Foundation – a charity that supports seriously ill young adults (aged 16 to 40) by providing special days away for the individual and their family. I wanted to raise money for The Willow Foundation after a number of friends and family had been diagnosed with cancer and had received support from the charity.

The dress code was "strictly wedding" – bridal gowns, three piece suits, bridesmaid dresses and tuxedos. The day began with a champagne reception on the terrace of The Mansion followed by a gourmet three course meal. A charity auction and a raffle were held after dinner which then made way for Leeds band Secret Sirens and an obligatory wedding disco.

The day was captured by Peter Boyd Photography, the room was decorated with flowers from The Secret Garden, Roundhay and a wedding cup cake tower was provided by Sarah at "Cake! by Sarah Small".

Other than a few tangled brides and wedding dress trains on the dance floor the day was brilliant, with over 70 people attending and enjoying themselves. A total in excess of £2,000 was raised for The Willow Foundation thanks to the generosity of the guests.

The day was fantastic and everyone had a wonderful time. The fact that we raised so much money was the icing on the cake and worth all the hard work that went into the organisation. There has been a lot of interest in a similar event for next year, so watch this space!
