This afternoon’s wedding blog instalment comes to you a little later than planned – at least this globetrotter is back home at last (!) – but it is no less beautiful for the delay.
.
Brides Up North reader Francesca writes: “I used to dance a lot and I would like to incorporate this into my wedding somehow. I am thinking ballerina styling, soft pinks… but I don’t know how to do this without it looking overly girly and kitsh? Can you help me with some inspiration?”
.
Francesca, your wish is our command, with a Wednesday Wed-spiration mood board by Brides Up North guest blogger Katy of What Katy Did Next. We hope that you love it as much as we do. Pink doesn’t have to mean sickly sweet.

Katy says: As requested by Brides Up North reader Francesca, I have incorporated ‘dance’ into this week’s moodboard. Hints of ballerina styling and soft pinks were a must, but our reader wanted the theme to stay away from kitsch and overly girly decor. I avoided the obvious tutu style wedding dress and went for a classic and elegant wedding gown that still resembled ballerina attire, I love the draping chiffon. Slightly pricey but very fun heeled ballet shoe Louboutins would look amazing with the dress and a beautiful swept up bun, which could be styled very neatly or with loose tendrils depending on your wedding mood.
.
I do think little flower girls in tutus would be very cute – keep them stylish by adding a wrap around cardigan in true ballet style. A beautiful soft pink bridesmaid dress like the ruched beauty pictured. There are lots of beautiful ballerina style dresses out at the moment that are maybe a little too short for bridesmaids. If there is a style you like why not take images to a local dress designer and talk about altering or designing your own dresses?
.
I picked gorgeous tutu-like flowers such as hydrangeas and peonies for your bouquet and centrepieces, and tissue pom pom flowers would also make a great alternative centrepiece. You could make some yourself out of sheet music like that fabulous Groom’s button hole. To keep the pink from being too girly, mix it with grey shades or a contrasting black – it will break up the candy coloured pink and white and look stylish too. Over all when I think ballerina, I picture ruffles, floaty fabric, ribbons and pearls. All perfect for creating a beautiful and ethereal theme.

Remember: the plan is to share a new inspiration board in this time slot every week, either compiled by myself, regular guest blogger Katy or YOU: get in touch with your own ideas and inspiration boards! We’ll be discussing our inspirations behind the images too so it’s simply going to be a whole load of lovely.
.
If you are a little less arty but in need of inspiration and still want to play along, we will also be taking requests for colour schemes and themes and making bespoke boards for my readers. Please contact me to suggest a theme or colour scheme.
