I have a soft spot for As You Like It, it being the location for one of my favourite Brides Up North Tweet Up parties to date, but today we are paying a visit to celebrate the Real Wedding of Helen and Chris.
.
From Helen’s beautiful Jenny Packham frock to her midnight blue bridesmaids, the couple worked with their quirky venue to keep their overall wedding style classy and cool. Nicely done!

Helen says: We got engaged in February, 2012 in Bristol and married on 23rd August, 2012 at As You Like It, Jesmond, Newcastle.

It couldn’t have been any further away from the corporate feeling of the many ‘package’ type weddings available. As You Like it was a perfect venue that required very little tweaking to get it just as we wanted it. The staff, venue and wedding planner were just wonderful! It was informal yet professional and a stunning place that we heartily recommend.

We wanted a very personal ceremony and reception that represented our tastes. The decor was a mixture of shabby chic and vintage elegance and we chose a midnight blue colour scheme.

I wore a Jenny Packham “Eden” wedding dress and the bridesmaids were in midnight blue lace over silk dresses from French Connection.

I carried a hand tied bouquet of blue and white flowers.

Our hair was styled by Aubergine hair salon in Forest Hall by a stylist that I went to school with with called Louise Johnson and make up was done by a salon in Whitley Bay called Taizen.

We chose to have individual cupcakes for our wedding cake from a cafe in Whitley Bay called Lottie McPhee’s Cupcakes.

We placed wild flowers in vintage enamel jugs on the tables with individual scrolls for our guests to leave their well wishes.

We wanted to keep things as personal and informal as possible so we chose all of our own music as well as asking our guests for their musical requests. From the ceremony music to the evening disco everything was hand picked to keep toes tapping from the Nanas to the kids.

My favourite moment was being introduced to our friends and family for the first time as husband and wife as we entered the room for our reception. The brilliant speeches will also live long in the memory!

After the wedding we honeymooned on the Cote D’Azur, France.

My top tip for other Brides Up North would be to get organised! We had more or less everything sorted before the big day, so the few days leading up to it were spent drinking and relaxing with friends and family, which was a perfect way to wind down before the excitement reached fever pitch!

Congratulations Helen & Chris!
