I just love it when when of my real brides stays in touch, even after the big day. We first met Kirsty on the wedding blog last winter, when I featured her gorgeous Christmassy real wedding (images that time by Jonny Draper Photography) and now she’s back – and she’s bringing her best girls with her – for a bridal shoot with a difference. Brides Up North, here come the girls…

Kirsty says: The inspiration for the shoot came from the lovely ladies at the boutique I purchased the Bridesmaids dresses from – Judith and Emily at Just Gorgeous. On one of the many visits to the boutique during the wedding planning we talked about doing something fun after the ‘Big Day’ – a funky shoot with picnics and fizz. A friend of Emily’s has a VW camper van in the same vibrant red as the girls dresses – We jumped at the opportunity.
The bridesmaids were all so in love with the fabulous 50’s style dresses that they couldn’t wait to dust them off and hit the lens one more time! and I of course had to join them. We’d set the date – borrowed picnic hampers, blankets and the camper van… it was full steam ahead!
I of course wore my amazing wedding dress! My dress was by White Rose. On the big day I teamed the dress with sparkly Jimmy Choo’s but opted for boots (hidden under the dress!) for the shoot. I wasn’t risking sinking my heels into sodden grass…
The Bridesmaids wore 50’s style Lou Lou dresses with gorgeous Vivienne Westwood heels.
We decided to use Whitaker Park, Rossendale as it’s lovely quiet parkland would be perfect for the ‘look’. Rossendale Museum & Art Gallery is also situated on the park and we were kindly invited in to continue the shoot when the heavens opened! The park is also close to Jules’ fabulous studio so it was only a short drive – needless to say the windscreen was almost covered with my frock and we did get some funny looks!
The day was such good fun! A great girlie day and a must do for those Brides that get the chance. We had such a giggle, I remember having to reposition the cakes on the cake stand because one of the bridesmaids had taken a chunk out of one proclaiming she was starving! It’s nice to dig out your dress once again and the photographs are great.
When I get round to it I’m going to frame the photographs. The shots are fantastic, Jules really captured us having fun and the images don’t look staged at all. We didn’t realise Jules was there at times!
