With snow forecast across the North this morning, it’s only fair that we brighten things up around here with this dreamy Real Wedding from the white isle of Ibiza. Loose the woollies, it’s time to soak up some sunshine with Sarah and John on their romantic wedding day.

Sarah says: On Valentine’s Day 2011 in Dubai whilst on holiday, we arranged to visit the observation gallery at the Burj Khalifa at sunset. John had planned to propose there until I invited a couple of mates along and that killed that idea off so he did it in the morning instead, with a heart chocolate from Thornton’s iced with “Marry Me?” that he took from the UK. I won’t begin to explain how difficult it was for him to keep it cold so it didn’t melt!
We were married on 11th May 2013 at Paissa D’en Bernat, near San Jose, Ibiza. We both love Ibiza and visit a couple of times a year as John is a DJ and plays out there every summer.
We have three children and wanted a venue that would accommodate them when they had had enough and needed to sleep, so a villa seemed the perfect choice! We looked at about 12, we found PDB at around villa 8 and immediately knew it was the one!
I wanted the day to feel romantic and hopefully that translated with the invites, the décor, the dress and the surroundings. We chose a colour scheme of ivory, mocha, dusky pink and chocolate.
I chose a dress called Geneva by Maggie Sottero. She is well known for doing amazing corsets and I wanted something well fitting, elegant and in keeping with the theme and venue. I think the dress was perfect for that.
The men’s suits were all hired from Austin Reed, the bridesmaid dresses were from Coast and our children wore Monsoon outfits.
My bouquets were silk and were made by my mum who is super creative! She wanted to do something personal for us and this was perfect. She also created the bridesmaids bouquets and decorated the pergola area in which we married, she is so talented!
We had a swing singer – James Loughlin – who we flew out from Liverpool, no-one knew he was coming so when he started singing whilst we were eating by the pool, it was just magical and took everyone by surprise. Our parents were in awe, as we knew they would be!
With John being a DJ, we had eight DJ friends in attendance! John was very adamant that he wanted it to be personal and so we asked each of them to take a 30-45 minutes slot, with an allocated genre of music. It worked perfectly and kept the music fresh!
We had a raspberry and white chocolate one tier cake although we didn’t eat any until two days after the wedding!
We visited a look out spot for a magical view of Es Vedre (a small island off the southwest coast of Ibiza which is famous for its beauty not to mention the numerous fables) for some photos. The setting is amazing and breath-taking, it was so nice to have a few moments away from everyone to reflect and enjoy a quiet moment.
We are planning to take a honeymoon in the school half term in October so our children can spend some time with their grandparents and we can go on holiday on our own. The destination is still under debate but our current thinking is South Africa or Mauritius. We can’t wait.
Research and planning are the obvious key things, as soon as you mention ‘wedding’, prices are inflated so my top tip for Brides Up North would be to be shrewd as well!
