Its holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a break to redesign, review and recharge, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely.
Usual service will recommence on Monday 7th July 2014, but in the meantime watch out for recaps of our favourite Real Weddings so far this year. Drop in every day for the very prettiest, most unique wedding inspiration and – if you are a Brides Up North bride – to see if your Real Wedding was one of our top picks.
We’re off to the seaside (well it’s been the weather for it lately hasn’t it?!) to celebrate the big day of Kelly and Irvine in Newton By The Sea, Northumberland. First featured here back in May, our lovely couple didn’t let a winter wedding date stand in the way of using a pretty coral colour scheme or posing for some stunning portrait shots by the shore – to devastatingly beautiful effect. I love.

Kelly says: We got engaged in August 2012 in Rome. Irvine took me away for my 30th birthday and proposed at the Trevi Fountain. I had no idea, we had had a lovely evening out with a meal and drinks and on the way back we stopped to see the famous landmark. He gave me a coin to throw in and make a wish and when I turned back around Irvine was down on one knee asking me to marry him.
We were married on Saturday 9th November 2013 at the stunning Newton Hall, Newton by the Sea in Northumberland.
Originally we thought about getting married overseas but decided to view Newton Hall amongst a few other venues after seeing it advertised in a local magazine. As soon as we saw it we fell in love with its interior and exterior surroundings. Newton Hall is very close to the beach and we decided we wanted to have our wedding photographs taken there as it is so beautiful and unspoilt.
We opted for a very country vintage look with coral pink and navy blue with accents of lace and hessian.
My dress was a ivory fishtail lace gown by Martina Liana from Accent Bridal in Newcastle. I knew that I wanted lace but was not sure which style of dress to go for. I tried on about 10 or 12 dresses in various bridal shops throughout the city and didn’t ‘love’ any of the them. Accent was one of the last places I went to and my dress was chosen for me to try on by the shop owner herself after discussing what I wanted. As soon as I put it on I felt like a ‘bride’ and although it was over budget I knew I had to have it!
My headpiece was custom made by Leigh Hetherington.
Irvine & his best man wore a suit from Reiss and my two bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses by twobirds purchased at Y.A.P Bridal in Newcastle.
My favourite moment was when I was walked down the aisle by my dad to Jose Gonzalez ‘Heartbeats’ and first caught a glimpse of my husband to be!
My ‘old and borrowed’ was my great nana Lucy’s vintage marcasite necklace which she bought with her first wage packet when working as a seamstress in the 1920’s.
I carried a beautiful bouquet of pink ranunculus and coral coloured vevezula roses accented with brunei, veronica and eucalyptus by Secret Garden Florist in Jesmond,
Irvine loved spending time together on the beach just the two of us having our wedding photos taken by Helen Russell Photography.
Our decor was by The Finishing Touch Company and our stationery by Eaton Stationery.
We chose a three tier chocolate, vanilla and fruit cake which was made by The Designer Cake Company. It was like a work of art and tasted lovely too!
For our honeymoon we travelled to New York for five days then on to Miami and the Florida Keys for a further week.
My top tip for other Brides Up North would be that the day itself goes so fast so keep stopping for a minute or two just the two of you to take it all in. Enjoy every minute!
Congratulations Kelly & Irvine!
