Today’s couple had made their minds up about one key element of their wedding before the proposal had even taken place – the venue. For David and Lucy fell
head over heels
for the gorgeous Jesmond Dene House from the very first time they visited. With the setting taken care of, David and Lucy built in a pretty theme using burlap and lace along with touches of pink which featured in the bridesmaid dresses and beautiful blooms.

David proposed at Jesmond Dene House in the middle of the restaurant (mid-meal) on the 2nd November 2013 after we’d gone, accidentally, to a wedding fare a couple months beforehand and fallen in love with the building. After that, David came up with a plan to propose, and as both of us are obsessed with great customer service, David wanted to go and stay there to make sure Jesmond Dene House was up to his standards! Luckily it was – and he proposed!
We booked the wedding for 15th of August 2015 at Jesmond Dene House. It holds a special place in our hearts as it was where David proposed and we both totally fell in love with its surroundings. We didn’t really have a set them as such but we did use a mixture of burlap and lace mixture throughout the wedding and chose a colour scheme of pinks with hints of green, silver and cream.
I decide on a strapless lace Pronovias gown which I bought from Mia Sposa Bridal Boutique in Newcastle Upon Tyne. As my something borrowed for the wedding, I had one of my best friend’s/bridesmaid’s lace veil – hopefully a tradition all of my friends will pass on.

David wore a silver grey three-piece tails suit bought from tuxedo.com with a silver waistcoat and cravat with a dusky pink pocket square. The groomsmen meanwhile wore light grey tails with a silver waistcoat and dusky pink cravat and pocket square.
The bridesmaids all wore A-line, cap-sleeve bateau lace chiffon floor-length dresses, two of which were skin pink, two dusky pink and my sister wore a sage green colour. We liked having the same dresses but mixing the colours to suit the individuals and the different colours in our scheme. All of the bridal party’s makeup on the wedding day was done to perfection by Danielle from Dani.Mua.

Jamie Penfold captured the whole day for us through the most amazing photography we’ve ever seen. He’s great to work with as he makes you feel so relaxed and truly captures all of those special moments.
We both decided early on that we wanted someone to catch the whole day on film too, so hired Tony Tait from Tait 2 Productions, to catch it all for us, and boy was it worth it!

On the day David drove himself to the wedding while the bridal party were picked up by AB Wedding Cars in two Bramwith Landaulettes.

All of the flowers were from Lavenders Blue in Morpeth. My bouquet was a mixture of pinks and creams with menthe roses, avalanche roses, eucalyptus and wax flowers. It was a loose style bouquet, hand-tied with hessian and my grandmother’s broach was attached as my something old.
Flawless Weddings and Events did a fantastic job of setting up the room at the venue using a mixture of table arrangements – some with little mercury vases with pink and cream flowers and some with tall dome flower arrangements. The tables all had vintage lace cloths with hessian and lace runners and the chairs covers matched with lace and hessian bows.

Love Lily made our lovely wedding cake. She did an amazing job of the white chocolate, three tiered design with button details and a bow on top (to match my wedding dress) with fresh avalanche roses in between each layer. We decided on different flavours and went with carrot and walnut, vanilla sponge and cherry, and a fruit cake tier.
To provide some extra sweet treats, Sara’s Kitchen made us a delicious dessert table with a mixture of cookies and cream cake-pops, mini cherry Bakewell tarts and white chocolate and raspberry cookies, to name but a few.

For the evening entertainment we had a live band called Small Wonder, who were incredible! We both know the bassist and it was great to have him and the band play a mixture of rock n roll songs, which got everyone up on the dancefloor. For our first dance, we asked one of our friends to sing our song, Amazed by Lonestar, live with the band. It was a very special moment that we had learned to waltz for, though that plan was short-lived due to the size of my dress! So instead, we asked all our friends and family to join us on the dancefloor, which made the moment that extra bit special.

Both of us would pick saying our own personal vows to one another in front of all of our loved ones as the highlight of the wedding day. It was very emotional with not a dry eye in the house!

Following the wedding we flew to Singapore on honeymoon where we stayed for three days before flying onto Bali for ten days, where we spilt our time between the jungle of Ubud and the beach of Sanur.

My top tip to other Brides Up North would be – try and take it all in. The day goes by so quickly you’ll find it hard to take a minute and realise how amazing your day is! And, so you can relive it, make sure you have a great photographer and videographer to capture your day.
