When they’re not busy delivering their wonderful services to brides and grooms, we just love to see suppliers getting creative and helping to inspire future weddings through imaginative styled shoots.

This afternoon on the blog we have

a real beauty

for you, which was put together by a talented bunch of suppliers from North Wales, at holiday cottage and wedding venue Tros Yr Afon, situated on the beautiful island of Anglesey.

As a venue that doesn’t offer set packages but instead tailors weddings to couples’ specific requirements, the team at Tros Yr Afon are always keen to help couples really make the day their own with unique ideas, themes and styling.

As such Jen Rowlands, Wedding Coordinator at Tros Yr Afon, jumped at the chance for the venue to provide the backdrop to the 60s inspired styled shoot that we’re sharing with you today. To explain more about the pretty, we’ll hand the blogging reins over to Jen.

A little while ago Gill Jones, of Gill Jones photography, a fantastically talented and lovely photographer who often works at Tros Yr Afon, approached us about doing a styled shoot at the venue. She asked if Tros Yr Afon could possibly be used as a playground for an enthusiastic group of wedding creatives. The idea was that it would not only be an opportunity to push boundaries, experiment, have fun and add something exciting to our portfolios, but also to bring together a group of local wedding suppliers and show what we could do when we all worked together. The answer, of course, was a most definite yes.

Effortlessly cool and stylish 60s chic was Gill’s concept for the styled shoot, which came from Nelly – the 1965 vintage camper van featured in the shoot, who was celebrating her 50th year. Gill wanted the result to be carefree and sexy; a little bit edgy, but still undeniably romantic.

To achieve the desired look, flowers supplied by Carol Rowlands, of Cherri Blue, were used to make up a simple white bouquet and were also placed in the model’s hair instead of a traditional veil. The model wore a gorgeous vintage shift dress, and her look was made complete with smoky eyes by makeup artist Rhiannon Pritchard, and big hair by stylist Julia Nicholls.

Gill captured silhouetted images inside the Manor House, outside shots among the magnolia flowers and images around Nelly the camper van; with the beautiful bride Shona, looking ready to jump into the vehicle and run away to her lover (Brigitte Bardot, eat your heart out!).

Overall, the day went really well. The weather was glorious (if anything too sunny for shooting in some spots) and time flew by! The suppliers worked together perfectly. No one came with an ego or a fixed idea on how it would work/look, suggestions were taken on board and the shoot evolved. It was a real pleasure to be part of.

From the venue’s perspective, it was fantastic to have the time to see and watch some of our suppliers in action. On a wedding day often there isn’t time to observe and ask questions, so it was great to gain a better understanding of how they work and look at things from a different angle.

It would certainly be lovely to do another collaboration, maybe an autumn/winter shoot this time, perhaps inside the Manor House, roaring fires and candle light. We’ll have to formulate a plan – watch this space!
