If you’ve been dreaming of planning a pretty outdoor wedding, complete with vintage décor and vibrant blooms, then prepared to be inspired! As this afternoon on the blog we’re sharing this secret garden themed styled shoot, captured in the beautiful Alnwick Garden.

Arranged by photographer Kimberley Waterson, the aim of the shoot was to show off her beautiful style of photography whilst also showcasing the wonderful talents of fellow North East wedding suppliers, covering everything from the dress to the stationery.

We adore the location for this shoot, being one of our Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition venues and having just shot some fabulous editorial there back in April for Unveiled Issue #06 ourselves (watch this space)!

Meanwhile, to fill us in on all the fabulous styling for this piece, we’ll hand over the blogging reins to the lady behind the lens…

I planned this shoot as I wanted to showcase my fine art photography while working with some of the best North East wedding suppliers. My background is in analogue from when I was a combat photographer in the Royal Air Force. I then studied fine art photography at Derby University and my love for film photography grew.

The theme of the shoot was ‘secret garden’ with a slight vintage influence. I chose Alnwick Garden in Northumberland as the location for two simple reasons: it’s truly beautiful at any time of year and it has an enchanting tree house built up into the tree tops, with a rope swing bridge. The location fitted perfectly with our theme.

Karen Alexander from Ruby Tuesday Events was fantastic on the day and created some beautiful sets ups. I knew I wanted a picnic scene in the orchard and an over-the-top flower crown, which she did perfectly. We originally had a different florist lined up but due to unforeseen circumstances she was unable to attend and thankfully Karen was happy to step in. I gave her an idea of colour and she came up with arrangements very fitting of the theme.

Lynne from Vintage at Number 18 was over the moon when I asked her to be a part of the shoot and the dresses we used were both original vintage and handmade, which I just loved. I chose each dress for the details they gave and paired them up with accessories, such as head pieces and belts, which were also supplied by Lynne.

Amber from The Vintage Wedding Company took the theme and came up with some of the best stationary I’ve ever seen. Her work has always pleasantly surprised me and I knew she would be perfect for this project. We also has some stunning cakes supplied by the fab Sadie May Cakes.

In terms of styling the model, I knew I wanted the look to be classic and fun, with a slight vintage edge. I love gold and sequins so I wanted to incorporate some metallic and shiny elements too. Katie Rouse, from Keep It Pinned, created a loose up do that looked really good with the different headpieces that we used. Makeup artists Kelly Vaughan kept the makeup nice and light with soft eyes and used three different lips: pink to match the flowers, a warm nude and striking gold!

Everyone did such a fabulous job and the day of the shoot went fantastically well. I knew we’d got until 4pm before storms were forecast to arrive – and that’s what we got, at exactly 4pm. Thunder lightning and the heaviest rain I’ve seen this year! We missed out on a few sets but as this was my first styled shoot, I can 100% say that I wouldn’t of changed a thing.

I have another bridal shoot scheduled for July, which I’m super excited about as we will be bringing on more North East suppliers, such as men’s and children’s wedding attire, and the odd four-legged friend might feature too!
