The engagement shoot that we’re sharing with you on the blog today is super simple yet very, very lovely as it leaves the couple’s emotions to truly do the talking.
Captured in a colourful rapeseed feel in Alvanley, Cheshire, we adore how smitten and totally into each other Lisa and Michael are in these stunning shots. A fabulous job by photographer Helen, who you wouldn’t even think was there!

We got engaged on my birthday weekend. Mike always plans a lovely surprise weekend away this time of year (last year was Harry Potter Studios!) We were at Chaophraya, a Thai restaurant in Liverpool where we had our first date, on the Saturday night when Mike proposed. He got down on one knee in front of a restaurant full of people. I was so happy and the ring is beautiful. To top it all off, Mike drove us to Fordham, a local village “for a drink”, on the way home and when I walked into the bar there was all our family and friends there ready to celebrate with us. It was a total shock! He couldn’t have planned it better. Best night ever!We are getting married at St John the Evangelist Church in Kingsley, then the reception is being held in a marquee at Mike’s nan’s.

Mike and I first met when we worked at a local hotel together when we were younger. We were more acquaintances than anything at that point. Many years later I received a Facebook message from Mike asking if he could take me out for a drink, to which I replied “yeah, ok” – and here we are now!
For our first date Mike picked me up from my parents’ house and drove us to Liverpool, he kept the destination a surprise (as usual). After parking the car we tried to find the restaurant and got a bit lost in torrential rain. One of my favourite parts was huddling together (admittedly slightly awkwardly) under an umbrella looking on Google maps for the restaurant that was yards away. We went to Chaophraya and had a beautiful meal together.

I knew pretty much straight away I would end up being with Mike forever – he’s just perfect and handsome. Mike says to me that it was love at first sight, and I agree. We just work so well together. We can both be ourselves and bring out the best of each other.
What I love most about Mike is how thoughtful he is, oh and tall, strong and handsome. I’m a lucky lady! What can bug me sometimes however is that when we are going out and it takes me ages to get ready, all in which time Mike could get himself ready but instead he waits until I’m ready and waiting by the door before he even starts to sort himself out.

I love how thoughtful Lisa (this is why we get on so well). I love her smile too, it’s so infectious. If I had to pick a bad habit of hers it would be that she doesn’t put things away after herself then when I put them away she asks where I put them (which I forget due to the amount of things I put away).

Our biggest wish for married life is to have a life-long happy marriage.
We decided to have an engagement shoot to get a taste of what our wedding day photography will be like and how we feel being photographed professionally, with the added bonus of having some more relaxed photos of us together.
All in all we really enjoyed the experience. It was so nice to be so close and not preoccupied by day-to-day life. Sounds soppy but holding and looking at each other was so lovely. It was like our photographer Helen wasn’t there for most of it, she just gave a little gentle direction here and there.
The photographs are just incredible, Helen has literally captured the love we have for each other perfectly. We will treasure them always.

During the wedding planning we’ve come to really like Brides Up North as it’s fantastic for ideas and provides great wedding inspiration. I particularly love looking at the real wedding features.
