Today’s real wedding couple are quick to confess that they’re not the most romantic, and so wanted a wedding day that was informal and fun.

Looking at the images we’d say they definitely achieved their goal, with smiles and laughter from the bride, groom and their guests throughout the proceedings.

Though relaxed, Lisa and Chris’s wedding has a lovely air of elegance to it, with the groom looking dapper in his tux and bow tie, and the bride every inch a princess in her beautiful lace detailed gown.

lisa says:

We got engaged in our back garden in June 2015, after enjoying an al fresco dinner. We’re a tongue in cheek couple who love to laugh and are not overly romantic, so it was as simple as that.

We chose to get married on 2nd July as my mum and dad got married on 2nd June and my sister and brother-in-law got married on 2nd December. We all got married at 2pm too.

Our chosen venue was The Walled Garden Marquee at Temple Newsam, Leeds, which we would highly recommend to others. Both Chris and I have grown up visiting Temple Newsam and the marquee itself is beautiful.

We wanted it to be quite informal and so whilst there was no set theme, it did have quite a rustic feel to it.

Our colour scheme was dusky pinks and ivory as these are my favourite colours.

When it came to dress shopping, the most important element I was looking for was back detail. I therefore chose a dress with a sheer back with intricate lace, diamante and pearl detail. It was beautiful and the suppliers, Precious Bridal in Garforth, were extremely helpful throughout the whole purchasing process.

Chris loves his clothes more than I do and so he purchased a custom-made, classic black tuxedo from Valted Tailors in Morley.

The groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos from Jeff Banks and the bridesmaid dresses were in dusky pink maxi dresses with chest detail, which were from Elsie’s Attic.

Chris’s grandad owns a vintage Rolls Royce and so we travelled in that on the wedding day and Chris’s grandad chauffeured. We then hired a vintage bus to transport our guests from the church to the venue.

Danni Maibaum of Danni Maytree Photography, captured our day. Danni is an ex-colleague who I had the pleasure to travel around Africa with a couple of years ago with a group of students. She was fantastic from start to finish and has lots of special touches. I would definitely, and have already, recommend her.

A family friend provided them our wonderful flowers, including my bouquet which was a combination of Memory Lane and ivory roses with pearl and diamante detail.

To decorate the venue I used a stylist called Wish Upon a Venue Dresser, based in Pudsey. She was fantastic and made the venue look perfect.

As favours we gave our guests cupcakes with the initials “C&L” on them, packaged up in small bags. We also a sweet cart set up in the marquee for guests to help themselves to.

Our wedding cake was a team effort between myself, my mum and my auntie. It didn’t turn out quite as I would have liked but the guests seemed impressed with it.

We chose a hog roast for the wedding breakfast and fish and chips for the evening reception to keep with the informal theme. This also reflected our tastes as a couple, as hog roast is Chris’s favourite and fish and chips are mine.

We chose just to have a DJ for the evening reception as we felt that our friends and music was all entertainment we needed.

Looking back on our day I would say that my favourite part was saying our vows and having all of our close friends and family there to witness it.

Following the wedding we went on honeymoon to Sorrento in Italy. It was lovely. We ate and drank far too much pizza, pasta, prosecco and Peroni! It was well deserved after the hard work we put in before the wedding.

My top tip to other Brides Up North would be – care less about what your guests may think and focus on what you and your other half want. It is all about you two after all.
