We’ve witnessed the rise of the pre-wedding shoot and are in great favour of its benefits; namely enabling the bride and groom to relax in front of the lens ahead of their big day and also providing them with a stunning set of loved-up images that can be treasured for years to come. But now we’re noticing a surge in the trend for a post wedding shoot, and guess what? We love these too!
Couples’ reasons for embarking on such a shoot vary from poor weather conditions on their wedding day preventing outdoor images, to not being able to afford a professional photographer at the time of marrying. Then there are those, like newlyweds and stars of today’s post Laura and Ben, who arrange a post-wedding shoot as they’re keen to have a different set of images to those taken at their wedding.
So different day, different venue but the same attire, Laura and Ben ventured to rural Shropshire for a cool and captivating shoot, which resulted in some truly gorgeous and unique images. Ladies, if you were looking for an excuse to re-wear that wedding dress, here it is!

The overall aim of the shoot was simply to provide Laura and Ben with some fresh wedding portraits. It was somewhat of an experiment for me as I wanted to move away from any trends and instead merge my fashion and portrait style with my wedding photography.The location for the shoot was an ex-airfield in Shropshire. The airfield is derelict and quite eerie but at the same time a beautiful setting, and steeped in history. It was perfectly rugged and overgrown, with twisted vines draping throughout. I wanted the scene to be dramatic, and it was!
On the day, Laura and Ben were a touch nervous but I’m such a babbling fool, we were all relaxed in minutes. We treated the shoot as an adventure, having a natter throughout until I spotted something interesting and then seizing the opportunity to take more images.
The best part of the day for us all was exploring the site, and also pretty much nonstop laugher. We had to be so careful not to snag Laura’s dress but she was such a trooper and climbed into all sorts of places – you always know you’re going to achieve great results when a bride is cool as a cucumber like this, when there are no restrictions!
Laura and Ben really trusted me, and this “trust” thing is key in getting the desired results. In this case the couple hoped to achieve work that they could cherish, something unique to them and without any rules and traditional stuffy poses. They (and I) were over the moon with the results and I thoroughly enjoyed the project from start to finish.
Looking ahead there are many more exciting times to come as I’m almost totally booked up for next year and I’m looking forward to each and every wedding. Lots of new projects and destination weddings in the diary too!
