When today’s real bride was planning her big day, she made the unusual move of buying her shoes before she’d even stepped foot inside a dress shop. But who can blame her when the shoes in question were a pair of electric blue jewel-encrusted Sex-and-the-City style Manolo Blahniks?
This super-classy wedding is full of super-pretty details, from white roses and blush peonies to on-trend rose gold accents. The navy/ivory/blush colour scheme is effortlessly chic, and the quaint red-brick charm of their reception venue makes for countless exquisite photo opportunities.

: We got engaged on 4th June 2016, in Tatton Park, Knutsford. It was a sunny day and Tom suggested going for a picnic. We found a spot by the lake, Tom put some music on, opened a bottle of champagne and the next thing I knew he was on one knee asking me to marry him!We married on 3rd June 2017. We picked this date as it was the same weekend we got engaged, so it was a special weekend for us already.
The ceremony was at St Wilfrid’s Church in Mobberley, and the reception was at The Church Inn pub just over the road. We picked The Church Inn as it was our local pub – in fact, we had our second date there. We have lots of good memories of the Inn from over the years. Once we’d picked the reception venue, we decided to have a look at St Wilfrid’s church and fell in love with beautiful, so it was an easy choice for us.
We didn’t really have a theme; we just wanted the wedding to be very relaxed and for people to enjoy the day. Colour-wise, however, we went for blush, rose gold, ivory and navy. I’d always had an idea of how I wanted our wedding day to look and it was based on these colours.
I had a ‘traditional’ wedding dress designed by Pronovias. I bought it from Eternity Bridal. Unusually, I picked my dress to match my shoes as I’d chosen my footwear first! I saw my dress online and knew it was the one. It had everything I wanted: a v-back, long train and could be changed for the evening do.
On the day of the wedding, I used Maxine Smith as a makeup artist. She was fantastic and I would definitely recommend her. My hair was done by Unity Hair Studio. David and Paula did a fantastic job – there was a lot of us who needed our hair doing!
Tom wore a suit from Whitfield and Ward. It was three-piece and navy with a grey waistcoat. Our groomsmen wore the same as the groom but they wore plain navy ties as opposed to a spotty one.
My bridesmaids wore a two-piece from Dessy, purchased from Mirage Couture in Sheffield.
Our day was captured by photographer Jess Yarwood. She was fantastic! She got some great shots of the day; not only of me and my husband, but also of our guests having a wonderful time. Her style really is something else and she made us feel so relaxed – just what you need on your wedding day!
Our videographers were Your Story Films (UK). This was a great decision; they captured the entire day from us getting ready to our first dance.
For my bouquet, I carried white roses and peonies by Tamaryn’s Treasures based in Alderley Edge; they did all of our flowers and decor. In keeping with the colour scheme, we had pink and white hydrangeas, blush and white roses (bombastic spray and quick sand) and blush and white peonies, while some eucalyptus brought a bit of greenery to the garland on our top table. The tables were finished off with rose gold chargers and rose gold floating candles in glass stem vases.
We didn’t really want to have a cake on the day but a lot of people said it was tradition – and good for pictures! We ended up going to Marks and Spencer for one of their wedding cakes and it was lovely. We also had retro sweets as a treat for our guests.
For our wedding meal, we sat down with the chef at The Church Inn to come up with a menu. We didn’t want anything too fussy and didn’t want to give people too much of a choice. We served canapes, prosecco and bottles of beer on arrival, our starter options were fish cake, goats cheese salad or pate and the main was beef wellington or fish with potatoes and seasonal vegetables. We finished off with a coffee trifle or salted caramel tart and in the evening, we had pulled pork sandwiches.
As entertainment, we had a string trio – Leo’s Strings – playing at the ceremony and during the drinks reception. In the evening, we had Elite Sound DJ for us.
The Church Inn was a great venue and we would definitely recommend the place to other couples. Karen, the events manager, was superb; from the original booking right through to the day itself, she couldn’t have been more helpful. The day ran smoothly and everyone had an amazing time. Nothing was too big or small for The Church Inn to handle, the staff on the day were brilliant and we can’t thank them enough for what they did for us. Also due a mention is The Roebuck Inn, where we stayed the night before and night of the wedding. The staff there were also great, very accommodating and made me feel like I was the only person there (a great feeling for a bride!)
Looking back, I don’t think I can pinpoint a favourite part of the day. I enjoyed every minute of it from getting ready right through to the evening do. It was the best day of our lives and everyone enjoyed it. If I could, I would do it all again!
Our honeymoon isn’t until September, when we head to the Maldives and Dubai. We can’t wait!
My top tip to other Brides Up North would be to make sure you have everything done (order of service, seating plan, favours etc) the week before so you can enjoy the run up to the big day. Suppliers get booked up very early, so make sure you have done your research and booked them in ASAP. You don’t want to lose them to another couple! Have a list of the photos you want on the day, get a good night’s sleep the night before and – most importantly – have fun!
