Essense of Australia for a romantic wedding at West Tower – Nicola & Stephen

Alexis Forsyth

Spring is in the air as we bring you all the pretty from Nicola and Stephen’s big day last May, coinciding with a certain royal wedding! The couple got married at West Tower in Ormskirk, instantly falling in love with the venue – and we can see why!

Going for a romantic and dreamy theme for the day, the couple chose a gorgeous blush pink, white and rose gold colour palette, with white roses, hydrangeas and peonies completing this Pin-worthy look perfectly.

Other touches we think you’ll be rather smitten with include a fabulous macaroon tower, a string trio for the most elegant of ambiences, and we just have to mention the bride’s strapless fit and flare gown – just wait until you see it!

Proposal

Nicola says

: We got engaged in August 2016. Stephen surprised me with a weekend away to the Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall Village. We had a day relaxing in the aqua thermal and having treatments, then before we went for a meal that night, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

Setting

We tied the knot on 19th May 2018. We picked May as we knew we wanted a spring wedding and was hoping the weather would be nice, it ended up being the same day as the royal wedding and the weather was a scorcher!

We got married at West Tower in Ormskirk. We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it. We picked it because it was modern and light everywhere and the service seemed second to none. The outside terraces and gardens were the perfect place for everyone to celebrate.

Theme

I wanted everything to look quite romantic and dreamy. My wedding colours were blush pink, white and rose gold – three of my favourite colours. I picked these because I wanted everything to have a beautiful modern look with added glitz of the rose gold.

Dress

My wedding dress was a strapless fit and flare gown. It was very detailed on the bodice with beads and sparkles, and the bottom flared out into a gorgeous organza skirt. It was very glam and the perfect in-between choice, with both a fitted and ball gown look. I had a cathedral length veil to match the gown. The designer was Essense of Australia and I bought my dress from Ava Rose Hamilton bridal couture in Colne.

Groomsmen

Stephen wore a grey checked Marc Darcy suit from Master Debonair. The groomsmen wore blue fitted suits from Next with the same grey checked waistcoat from Master Debonair.

Bridesmaids

The bridesmaids wore a Hayley Paige Occasions dress in blush pink with a tulle skirt and sparkle details on. Meanwhile, my flower girls wore pretty dresses from Monsoon.

Beauty

My makeup was done by Stacey Whittaker Make Up Artist and my hair was styled by Georgina Reynolds hair technician.

Photography

Kirsty Counsell from Alfred and Co. Photography captured our day. I would absolutely recommend her, she instantly felt like a friend, she put every single one of us at ease and made the picture taking fun, and one of my favourite moments from the day.

Styling

The flowers were supplied by Flowerstyle by Laurie in Formby. My bouquet consisted of white roses, hydrangeas and peonies.

On every table we also had huge flower balls made up of white and pink roses, hydrangea and peonies, they were stunning and you could smell them throughout the day.

We also had rose gold sequin table cloths provided by Ozzy James Events. They looked beautiful. Princess 4 a Day also supplied us with our lovely chair covers.

We gave macaroons to our guests as favours and the flavours included apple and custard, and pistachio and chocolate. These were made by Lou Lou Meringues.

Cake

We had a macaroon tower with a two-tier ombre buttercream cake on top consisting of lemon and Victoria sponge, made by Vanilla Nova Cakes.

Dining

For canapés, we had mini beef Yorkshire puddings, chicken and bacon tartlets and mini cheese and spinach Wellington, with rose cava and Peroni for our welcome drinks.

The wedding breakfast featured goats cheese with fig salad and balsamic croute to start; beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and market vegetable bundle for mains, and then an assiette dessert of chocolate plant pot, banoffee profiterole and creme brulee.

In the evening, we served mini fish and chip cones, mini cheeseburgers and mini cheese and ham paninis.

Entertainment

Our venue recommended a DJ. We just wanted to be on the dancefloor for the night and he was very good.

We had Rhondino string trio, who played a mixture of songs we had picked for the wedding ceremony and welcome drinks. We also had a caricaturist for the night do – he was amazing and went down a storm.

Other decorative touches included a white LED dance floor, a magic selfie mirror in the evening supplied by Ozzy James, and Mr & Mrs Wood lights from The Word is Love.

Thanks to

I would recommend West Tower because it was exclusive to us on the day. For that one day, the staff make it all about you as a couple and nothing is too much trouble. The food was amazing, and the setting is just perfect.

Best bit

Our favourite part was when we had our pictures taken, just the two of us. It gave us a chance to be with each other, alone. I also loved walking into our wedding breakfast to our friends and family cheering for us.

We also both said how much we loved actually saying our vows and walking out as husband and wife.

Honeymoon

We went to Croatia for a week to a resort called Rovinj. It was the most beautiful resort and hotel. We explored, chilled, ate at some beautiful places, did wine tasting and just enjoyed a romantic week in a gorgeous place.

Advice

I would say to other Brides Up North, try different styles of dresses as you may be surprised what suits you the best. Make some time to be with each other on the day and don’t let the little things stress you at the planning stages.

Throughout I followed Brides Up North on social media so saw all the posts and articles, which I found useful for decor inspiration for our wedding.
