Engagement

Our love story – Bethany & Josh

Alexis Forsyth

Today’s couple Bethany and Josh have come a long way since their first date to the cinema and McDonald’s.

Not only do they have a beautiful daughter, they are now in the throes of planning their big day at the wonderful Woodhill Hall in Otterburn, Northumberland.

Having set a date for September 2020, the couple – who first met as teenagers – decided that an engagement shoot would make the perfect practice run for posing in front of the camera. And we think they’re complete naturals!

Choosing Hill House Farm Cottages as the backdrop to the shoot, thanks to its captivating scenery – the photos are everything a dreamy engagement shoot should be, don’t you think? Here’s Bethany to tell us all the details.

Proposal

Bethany says

: We got engaged on my birthday in 2018. Josh had left that morning for work as normal. I was getting myself and our baby daughter, Evelyn, ready for a day out with my mum. I then heard Josh come back through the front door, with breakfast in his arms, telling me that he was taking me on an adventure!

After breakfast, we got in the car and went to Roseberry Topping. I used to live near there when we first got together, so it’s a special place for us. At the top, he pulled his laptop and Prosecco out of his bag. He played me the most beautiful video that he had made along with a poem he had written. When I turned around, he had Evelyn sitting on his knee along with my beautiful ring – it was perfect!

Big day setting

We are getting married at the beautiful Woodhill Hall in Northumberland in September 2020.

It’s going to be very relaxed. Having a young daughter means it’s definitely going to be fun! There isn’t a set colour scheme as such. Our bridesmaids will be in sage green but that’s as far as we have got! In terms of the flowers, there will be lots of bright colours and tons of eucalyptus.

How we met

We first met aged 15 and 16 when Josh was in a band with my brother. It took us another six years to get together though, when we bumped into each other at a local music festival. The rest is history!

First date

Our first proper date involved a trip to the cinema and sitting in McDonald’s car park to talk and share some chips – the romance! Josh brought along a huge bag of all my favourite snacks for the cinema. I knew he was a keeper!

What we love most

I think now that we are parents, we would both say our favourite thing is seeing how much we both adore our little girl. We definitely make family time a priority.

Our biggest wish for married life is to have a long and happy life together, growing our little family!

About the shoot

We chose to have an engagement shoot as we were feeling a little apprehensive about having our wedding photos taken. These days, we spend a lot of time behind the camera, snapping pictures of Evelyn instead. Neither of us feel particularly comfortable in front of the camera, so we wanted a practice run!

We had our photos taken at Hill House Farm Cottages in Little Langton. We love the scenery so felt like we would be able to get some lovely natural photos there.

It has definitely made us both feel a lot more relaxed! Our photographer, Phoebe, put us at ease right away. We were a little awkward in front of the camera to start with, but she was so friendly, and we really adore our photos. I think when our wedding day arrives, we will both feel a lot more comfortable posing for pictures.

Wedding plans

I regularly visit the Brides Up North website and Instagram page. It helped us to find our venue – there are many beautiful venues in the North East and the sheer amount of options available was quite overwhelming to start with. Brides Up North definitely helped us narrow down our search!

We would absolutely love to return to the blog to share our wedding with readers next year!
