If anything is going to make you want to throw on a seasonal sweater and sing Mariah Carey at the top of your lungs, it’s this insanely Christmassy pre-wedding shoot.
Giving us ALL the fuzzy festive feels this perfectly curated winter wonderland, complete with baubles, berries, foliage and even snow (well, sort of!), is the perfect setting against which to capture loved-up North East couple, Lucy and Ross, who are set to marry in May 2020.
An imaginative contrast to the vibrant spring/summer wedding that the couple have planned, their creative photographer, Nikki Paxton, suggested the romantic festive narrative which reflects Lucy and Ross’ fun, carefree personalities to a tee.
No reindeers here to pull the sleigh (or cute camper in this case), though there is one fine looking canine called Riot!
And so, join us, as we step into Christmas…

PROPOSAL
Lucy says
: We got engaged at Druridge Bay on 22nd May 2018, it was a total surprise as I’d been dying for Ross to ask me for so long that I’d given up hope. We just took our dog Riot for a walk at the beach and they both ran off playing together in the sand dunes. Moments later Riot came running over to me and attached to his harness were ribbons and little tags that read: “Will you marry my dad?”. When I looked up Ross was in front of me down on one knee. Apparently, he just woke up that morning and thought today’s the day and went for it spur of the moment style.BIG DAY SETTING
We’ve set the date for 20th May 2020 and our chosen venue is Le Petit Chateau in Northumberland.
Our theme is ‘fun and colourful’, we just want the whole day to be enjoyable for everyone and a celebration that is 100% us! We’re going for vibrant summer multi-colours!
HOW WE MET
We met each other through a mutual friend on MSN (cringe!) when we were 14 and dated on and off until we were 16. At 17 we bumped into each other again at an airport and ended up on the exact same holiday, same hotel, everything but didn’t speak again after that. Every now and then I’d get a friend request from Ross on Facebook and random messages which I’d never accept or reply to. But then one day (aged 20) I was too curious and wanted to know what he had to say and so I accepted and replied, and we’ve been together ever since! Ross had said that he thought I was really pretty.
FIRST DATE
For our first dates we tended to go to local Indian restaurants in Morpeth. Ross says he knew it was true love the moment he had seen me again!
WHAT WE LOVE MOST
I love Ross’ confidence – he makes me feel safe and loved 100% of the time. Meanwhile he says that I still give him that “fireworks in tummy” feeling.
We spend our couple time mostly taking Riot on adventures and scoffing our faces!
ABOUT THE SHOOT
Our pre-wedding shoot with our amazing photographer Nikki Paxton took place at Throstles Nest. We gave Nikki full control and she came up with doing the complete contrast to our colourful spring/summer wedding…a snowy winter shoot!
We enjoyed it so much! We’re really awkward when it comes to having our photo taken but Nikki made us feel really relaxed and now we know what to expect when it comes to our wedding photos.
We’ve actually used one of the photos to create a Christmas card and I have saved space on our walls in our home for some of the others.
WEDDING PLANNING
I found Brides Up North a few years ago when one of my best friends was getting married and have been a follower ever since.
I have also been to several Brides Up North wedding shows to search for suppliers and get ideas and have used the blog and social media for inspiration and to see what other real brides have done for their big days.
WISH FOR MARRIED LIFE
To live a long, happy and healthy adventure together!
