REAL WEDDING RECAP 2019: Daughters of Simone for a boho-luxe wedding at Middleton Lodge – Jessica & James

Sarah Symonds

It’s holiday season here on the blog, and as the editorial team take a short break, we’ll be leaving you with a reduced blogging schedule so that you still get your daily dose of wedding lovely. Usual service will recommence on Monday 6th January 2020 but in the meantime watch out for recaps of some of our favourite Real Weddings from the latter half of 2019.

Drop in every day for the very prettiest, most unique wedding inspiration and – if you are a Brides Up North bride – to see if your real wedding was one of our top picks.

We’re back at one of our favourite Yorkshire venues again today, the unbelievably stunning Middleton Lodge, for a relaxed, summer wedding day in the pared back Fig House, set within the estate’s beautiful and timeless walled gardens.

It’s hard to go wrong with Middleton Lodge but Jessica and James have really made the most of the space. With a palette of neutral and elegant taupe and pops of peach and coral tones, they’ve kept the whole look and feel very soft and pretty which makes for the most dreamy pictures, as you’ll see. And we’re all giddy over those perfect golden hour shots!

From a proposal in Rome, to the big day in Yorkshire and then on to a honeymoon in the Maldives and Dubai, this is one luxury celebration, that’s for sure. But there’s a romantic boho twist that we know will get you brides-to-be inspired. And, with that boho vibe in mind, it’ll come as no surprise that Jessica picked a dress from none other than fan favourite, Daughters of Simone, opting for a beautiful and on-trend two-piece gown. Swoon!

Proposal

Jessica says

: We got engaged in October 2017 whilst enjoying a city break in Rome. James proposed to me at the Trevi fountain on the first night.

Setting

We got married on Saturday the 20th of July, in The Fig House at the stunning Middleton Lodge Estate. We chose this date as we wanted a summer wedding and wanted the gardens to be in full bloom. We had the beautiful two acres of walled gardens for the full day. Our ceremony was held in the Boiler Bar room and then we had our drinks reception outside, in the gardens.

We were told about the venue by some close friends of ours and actually went to see The Fig House while it was still under renovation! But we just fell in love with it straight away.

Theme

Our wedding was very relaxed and we went for a boho luxe feel. Our colour scheme was taupe, blush, soft peaches and coral colours.

Dress

I wore Daughters of Simone separates. I purchased my dress from Ghost Orchid Bride in Hull.

I knew I wanted a Daughters of Simone dress from the start. I tried a few different dresses on and then Katey, who owns the shop, suggested I try on a skirt and top from the separates collection, and I just fell in love with it instantly when I put it on.

Groomsmen

James wore a three-piece navy suit with a navy tie and a white pocket square, all from Reiss. The groomsmen wore navy two-piece suits with a navy tie from Next.

Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore taupe/blush bardot dresses from ASOS and our flower girls wore ivory crochet dresses from Monsoon.

Beauty

I’m lucky enough to work at the amazing Bows Hair & Beauty based in Hull. Amy and Ellie who own the salon, and who were also two of my bridesmaids, got us all ready in the morning. It was just the perfect morning. We stayed at the venue the night before so didn’t need transport and could all just relax and get ready at Middleton.

Photographer

Our photographer was Katherine at Inspire Images. She is amazing! I’ve known Katherine a few years now and always knew I wanted her as our photographer when we got married.

Videographer

We had Ben Rainey as our videographer, as he’d been recommended by a friend. He is so fresh and different, and that is exactly what we wanted. His video of the day absolutely blew us away.

Styling

I had a gorgeous hand tied, relaxed bouquet full of gorgeous nude garden roses, green foliage and big peonies. We had Sarah from Floral Lounge in Hull provide our flowers. She is so creative and just knew exactly what I wanted. She arranged bottles with sprigs of flowers in them as our table centrepieces and created floral hoops to hang on the walls.

Favours

We made our guests little bottles of gin favours. They went down a treat!

Cake

We had a two tier semi-naked cake. It was decorated with gold leaf and fresh flowers. It looked and tasted amazing. We used Sweet Charlotte Cakes who are based just around the corner from the venue, in Richmond.

Dining

We had canapes and prosecco for our drinks reception. Then for our wedding breakfast we had duck terrine to start, sirloin and beef brisket for main and a passion fruit panna cotta for dessert, all served with red and white wine. We had street food in the evening.

Entertainment

We had an acoustic musician during our ceremony and drinks reception, John Gatenby from AMV Live Music. He was absolutely amazing. We first heard him at a wedding fayre at Middleton Lodge. He was probably one of my favourite aspects of the day.

Thanks to

We would absolutely recommend Middleton Lodge to another couple. It’s the prettiest venue set in the most beautiful gardens and the light in the orangery is lovely. Because there are so many doors and windows it really feels like you’re eating in the gardens.

Best bit

It’s hard to have one favourite bit, as it was all so perfect! But if I had to choose, I would say walking down the aisle to James.

Honeymoon

We went to the Maldives first, which was just incredible. Absolute paradise. We stayed on the island Kuramathi where we went snorkelling daily, paddle boarding, kayaking and lots of other fun stuff. We then stopped off in Dubai on the way back for a few days and checked out all the incredible sights.

Advice

My top tip to other Brides Up North is to make sure you enjoy every minute of your day and take some time out together to watch everyone enjoying your day as much as you are!
