The Grade II listed Rivington Hall and it’s beautiful barn became the perfect backdrop for today’s couple, Katie and Kieran, as they tied the knot in style last summer.
If ‘pretty in pink’ is your jam, you’re going to love this totally extra wedding. Bride Katie has gone all in on the pastel pink fairytale. Decked out with romantic faux cherry blossom trees, fairy lights and seasonal blooms, the venue takes on a whimsical feel. The stunning Stella York gown, a strapless princess dress of dreams, adds to the ethereal vibe and the touch of sparkle is quite literally the icing on the three-tier sponge cake.
And we’ve not even got to the highlight yet – the party! Throwing a memorable bash is no mean feat but this was our couple’s best bit. Filling the dancefloor and seeing all of your nearest and dearest having the time of their lives is priceless and makes all the planning worthwhile. Katie opened up to us about her big day and how exactly she pulled it off.

Proposal
Katie says
: We got engaged in December 2016, at my 30th birthday party at Egerton Cricket Club in Bolton.Setting
We got married on the 29th of June 2019. We wanted a lovely summer wedding and that’s exactly what we got. We had the ceremony in St Katherine’s Church because some of my family have been married there and it’s my home town. We then held the reception at Rivington Hall Barn in Bolton. We chose it because it’s just an amazing and beautiful venue and it’s local enough for all our family and friends.
Theme
We didn’t really have a special theme, we just wanted sparkle (well, I did!) and the pinks and nude tones were the perfect colour for summer. Kieran was just happy to go along with it, thankfully!
Dress
I chose a beautiful strapless dress by Stella York, purchased from Emma Louise Bridal in Bolton. I was helped by my bridesmaids, my mum and Amber at Emma Louise Bridal, who was fabulous and very patient.
Groomsmen
Kieran and his groomsmen wore tails in blue from John Francis Suit Hire in Harwood.
Bridesmaids
My bridesmaids wore pale pink dresses from M&S which was a multiway style. The chief bridesmaids wore a dress from ASOS. My flower girls had their amazing little dresses made by Something Special bridal shop.
Beauty
My hair and makeup was done by Jess at The Salon in Horwich. Makeup was done by Deb at Ruby Red Lips. The bridesmaids hair was also by Jess, and their makeup was done by Amy Judd Beauty.
Transport
Bridesmaids and groomsmen traveled in an old red London Routemaster bus from Classic Buses. Kieran and I traveled in a 1930s style Beauford tourer from Broughton Wedding Cars.
Photographer
The amazing Nik Bryant Photography and his fabulous assistant photographer, Kieran. We would highly recommend them as they helped make our day and memories of the wedding even more perfect.
Styling
I had an amazing fan bouquet made by Nicola and Meg at Wild & Wondrous. They provided all our wedding flowers; orchids, peonies, lilies, calla lilies. We would highly recommend them. Nicola really helped me choose all of the flowers and I was so impressed on the day with how beautiful our reception room looked. We also had ‘love’ letters, blossom trees, tables and a magic mirror photobooth from the team at Make It Stand Out, and confetti cannons provided by Rivington Barn. I set up a sweet shop myself, for the kids and big kids!
Favours
We decided on a quirky scratch card favour for all the adults and I made the children a sweet cone each.
Cake
I chose a three tier mixed chocolate and vanilla sponge cake by my fabulous friend Sarah at The Squirrel Cake Shop in Chorley. She did a beautiful job, as she always does.
Dining
We had soup to start, as most people like soup, and then oven roast chicken for mains, with a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. There was roasted mushroom and vegetable Wellington as a vegetarian option. All the food suited our guests.
Entertainment
We chose Scene My Event DJs and saxophone, and had Sean, our good friend, on the bongos. Together these guys delivered the most amazing atmosphere and what a party it was!
Thanks to
We would absolutely recommend our venue to another couple! It’s perfect for a wedding. If you want a fairytale venue, delicious food and the perfect party, all under one roof, this is the place for you! We have no regrets at all.
Best bit
The party was our best bit! I can’t find the right words to describe the party that was delivered that night. I can honestly say that at some point everyone was on the dancefloor. It was full all night. We had sore feet the day after but it was well worth it!
Honeymoon
We went to Crete with our son, Max, and a few of our friends and their children. We stayed at Euphoria Resort.
Advice
My advice for another couple would be to enjoy every minute and have no regrets. It’s your day, take each other to one side when you can, just for two minutes, to have a breather and take it all in. Every little bit of worry during the planning will be worth it on the day.
