Katie and Mark swapped their vows at the breath-taking Eaves Hall in Clitheroe.

Katie knew that Eaves Hall was the place where she would get married before she and Mark were even engaged – and it’s not hard to see why. Combining an opulent setting with a party-perfect atmosphere, delicious dining and accommodation, the stunning Georgian country-house venue was the ideal location for the couple’s sunny late-March wedding.

Of course, the beauty of booking a venue that’s so rich in character is that it doesn’t require a huge amount of decoration. Instead, this happy couple opted to keep things ‘simple, soft and romantic-looking’, with a colour scheme of blush pinks punctuated with lashings of white and ivory.

Roses and hydrangeas adorned the reception tables, with sweet details – such as personalised confetti cones, calligraphy-inspired signage and stacks of irresistible donuts alongside the cake – adding an extra romantic touch.

Keep your eyes firmly peeled for some beautiful in-the-dark photos, too – they exude some serious Gatsby-esque glamour…

Proposal

Katie says: We got engaged at home, a month after we’d just bought our first house together. There was nothing dramatic and it was just us – it was perfect

Setting

We got married on 29th March 2019. Our main reason for the date was cost but I also love spring and we had the most beautiful weather.

We got married at Eaves Hall and held both the ceremony and reception there. We were really keen for our guests to not have to travel between venues and doing this also meant we could all spend that time mingling instead.

I would recommend Eaves Hall in a heartbeat. I knew I wanted to get married there before we were even engaged and luckily my husband agreed! We didn’t even visit any others as we didn’t feel they would have even compared. It has so many different areas for you and your guests and bedrooms for them to stay over too but the staff are what makes it. The whole planning process and the day itself went without a hitch thanks to them! Nothing was a bother to them.

Theme

We wanted to keep things simple, soft and romantic-looking so we didn’t have much of a ‘theme’ – Eaves Hall is such an amazing venue that it really doesn’t need much extra fuss.

In keeping with that, we chose a colour scheme of white, ivory and blush pinks.

Dress

My dress was a Justin Alexander A-line dress with a lace bodice and illusion neckline, which I bought from Lulu Browns. It wasn’t the style I imagined I’d wear on my wedding day but as soon as I put it on I really did get that ‘feeling’ – I loved how it made me feel!

Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore long mauve pleated dresses from TFNC. They’re all so different but the dress suited every one of them perfectly!

Beauty

We all had our hair done by Mairead at Wedlocks Bridal Hair and our make-up by Helen Cafferky.

Groomswear

We hired my husband and his groomsmens’ navy suits from Slaters in Manchester; Mark wore a different waistcoat to the others.

Transport

Myself, my mum and bridesmaids stayed over at The Lodge at Eaves Hall the night before the wedding. My husband stayed in the Waddington Arms, which was just a couple of miles down the road.

Photography

Nik Bryant was our photographer and I would 100% recommend! His photos speak for themselves and he’s also the perfect calming influence to have around – especially in the morning when I was worrying about the time!

Videography

Having a videographer was a relatively last-minute decision but after being told by others who didn’t have one that this is what they regretted, we booked Michael Langley at Satin Pictures and what a good decision that was!

Everybody has commented saying how amazing our video is – I still haven’t managed to watch it without crying. I have actually recommended him to my auntie, who is getting married later in the year – she said our video was the best she’s ever seen!

Styling

The Flower Shop in Clitheroe designed all our flowers. I held a rounded bouquet, full of different types of roses and peonies and a little foliage for structure. I wanted bigger flowers as I liked the ‘full’ look. They were beautiful and I dried them after the wedding so still have them now.

My bridesmaids each held a miniature version of my bouquet.

For our reception, half the tables had roses entwined around the candelabras and the other half had hydrangeas in small vases

Favours

We didn’t bother with favours as, in my experience, they just get left on tables! So we decided to cut costs by avoiding these.

Cake

Our wedding cake was made by Zara Cakes in Manchester. It was three tiers with vanilla, lemon and chocolate, all coated in buttercream – it was delicious! We also had some donuts to give guests a bit of choice and I didn’t even see them as they went so quickly.

Catering

Our guests had their pick of beef or lamb for their main because these are mine and my husband’s favourite meats and we couldn’t decide so had both, which were absolutely perfect.

Vegetarians had a spinach and ricotta ravioli and there was also a vegan option too, which I believe was very popular.

I’m not sure what the wine was but I know we had a selection of white, red and rose going round – and the white went down very well with me!

Entertainment

We booked a string trio via Thackeray Music who played during our ceremony and drinks reception and really set the tone. There was something special about the music being played by actual instruments as opposed to a track. We also had some extra bits from Creative Cover Hire who provided our seat covers but we also got a white aisle carpet, ceiling drapes and a curtain of lights which was lovely in the evening!

We had evening entertainment included by DFC as part of our booking with Eaves Hall but we also chose to have Chris Cooper ‘host’ our entire day, which was something we’d never seen before and was the best decision we made.

We met with Chris a few times before the wedding so he got to know us and knew the types of music that would fit us and our day and he nailed it!

We had a magician, Ian Edgar, perform between 6pm – 9pm as a bit of extra entertainment for our guests and he was brilliant! Everyone had a right laugh and it filled the time perfectly between the day and night parts of the day when people can start to flag.

Best bit

This is really hard to choose and apart from seeing my husband’s face as I walked down the aisle, it would have to be our entire wedding party on their feet singing Bohemian Rhapsody in between courses at our wedding breakfast. This is a moment I’ll never forget and is still talked about regularly.

I had the best time planning our wedding and we have nothing but fond memories of the entire experience. I can’t wait to go through all the pictures and videos with our first baby girl, who is due in April, when she is older.

Honeymoon

We headed to Mexico a few days after our wedding for two weeks of sun and pure relaxation, which was much needed. Our resort had multiple restaurants and pools so we didn’t have to leave much which suited us perfectly. We had the best time and hope to go back one day.

Advice

Make lots of lists and never be afraid of booking things ‘too early’. I had a lot of people tell me I had loads of time but it’s surprising how quickly two years go – having everything booked in advance took an awful lot of stress off me.
