Martin Thornburg for a Fairytale Wedding at The Lingholm Estate – Poppy & Keith

Sarah Symonds

Disney fangirls assemble! We’ve got you covered today! We love a nod to a theme and there’s nothing more fairytale than the Magic Kingdom itself…

Once upon a time Keith whisked Poppy off to Disney World and proposed, they tied the knot on the romantic Lingholm Estate and everyone lived happily ever after. It’s the stuff every good fairy story is made of, right? Right.

So, today on the blog, we’re bringing you a pretty, blush pink, summer wedding set in the magical Lake District as Poppy and Keith marry surrounded by their nearest and dearest. Poppy glows like an actual princess, in a sequined tulle and organza gown with the perfect sweetheart neckline by Martin Thornburg. Such a beautiful silhouette! And check out those lakeside couple shots…

Proposal

Poppy says: We got engaged at Disney World Florida on the 18th September 2016 in front of the Magic Kingdom Castle. It was like something out of a fairy tale, and it was our second trip back to Disney World and the first day of the holiday!

It was a mad rush to get to the Magic Kingdom early to beat the crowds – once we were parked up, we got the boat over, then through security. Any other time, we would have sailed through, however Keith got stopped at every given point. He even got asked to empty his pockets! But as soon as the security man saw a ring box, he told Keith to be on his way and to “have a great day!”

Wanting to get a perfect first picture, we headed straight to the castle and Keith spoke to a Disney Photographer telling him of his plan. Then, as we stood posing for our shot in front of the castle, Keith got down on one knee.

Setting

We married at the Lingholm Estate, Keswick, in the Lake District, on the 13th July 2019. We had been going to Keswick for a number of years and it felt like our second home. When we were looking at venues, the second we saw The Lingholm we knew that was the place for us.

Theme

There was a Disney theme. We have a love of all things Disney and getting engaged at Disney World meant we had to have it as a theme of the day. We had little touches of Disney throughout our wedding. We made a lot of our own features, including a Disney style seating plan and wedding signs.

Our colour scheme was blush pink and navy. These have always been my favourite two colours and had been planned years before.

Dress

The dress I chose was a Martin Thornburg, an amazing strapless sweetheart lace over tulle, sequined tulle and organza A-line gown featuring a unique all over beaded and embroidered pattern mimicking floral vines.

Groomsmen

Keith rented a suit with his groomsman from Peter Posh. He wore a navy suit with a grey chequered waistcoat. The groomsmen wore the same.

Bridesmaids

My adult bridesmaids wore a blush multiway dress from Monsoon so that they could all look similar but still give their role and look their own style. My younger bridesmaids wore a silvery grey knee-length Grecian style dress, also from monsoon, giving them the similar look to the older bridesmaids.

My flower girl (my 14 month old baby) wore a handmade blush tutu with a white vest. She then changed into a Monsoon dress later in the day for comfort.

Beauty

My bridesmaids did their own hair and make up. I did my own makeup but Ella Bella Bridal did my hair.

Photographer

Our photographers were Fairclough Photography. We would 100% recommend Katie and James, they were just fantastic, captured our special day just how we imagined.

Videographer

Our videographer was Catherine of Catherine Luther Wedding Films. Catherine was just incredible, we were blown away by her work and the video she captured for us was beyond special. Just magical!

Styling

I carried a beautiful mix of vintage, blush and white roses, busy lizzies, blue thistles and wild greenery from our local woods.

Louis’ Flowers took care of all the floral arrangements. We had white rose buttonholes and a white ivy archway where we said our vows.

Favours

I made the favours myself, we had home-made honeycomb and brownies. Our faves!

Cake

We had a naked wedding cake by the Kendal Bakery. It was a three-tier cake, very simplistic and elegant. It was then decorated with flowers.

Dining

The food and drink was prepared by Keith! He used to be a Chef). He did a ‘posh picnic’ and it was just perfect for the warm summers day.

Entertainment

My wonderful Uncle Ben did the disco in the evening. We also had garden games throughout the day on the estate.

Thanks to

Absolutely 100% our venue. You get exclusivity of the wonderful estate over the period of your wedding, for us that was Friday-Monday morning. We also stayed on-site in the honeymoon suite, which was out of this world. The setting and location is idyllic and perfect for anyone wanting a countryside wedding in the Lakes.

Best bit

Our favourite part of the day was, of course, marrying one another! This wasn’t just because we were becoming husband and wife, but because we were becoming a proper family unit.

Keith was also able to announce in his speech that we were expecting our second baby! So it was a double celebration with all of our family and closest friends.

Honeymoon

We haven’t yet been on our honeymoon but we are booked to go to Disney World in 2021 on our ‘familymoon’ with our two girls.

Advice

My advice would be to enjoy every second of the planning and the day – it all goes by in such a flash. At the end of the day, it’s about the celebration of love and family so to be able to make our day one big party filled with love and laughter made it so very special.

Make sure you also get some time together, just the two of you. Just get some you time and take a breath.
