Another beautiful throwback wedding today for you, to remind you what life was once like and will soon be again! We’re taking you back to 2019 and the wedding of the lovely Maegan and her husband Dylan at Saltmarshe Hall.
We do love a summer celebration and all-natural theme, keeping things simple but pretty with a lemon yellow and navy colour scheme, the perfect early September combo.
Saltmarshe, a Grade II listed country house, and one of our epic Brides Up North Wedding Show venues, offers couples a choice of inside or outside licensed ceremony spaces, so you can opt to tie the knot al fresco as Maegan and Dylan did but still benefit from the stunning, grand interiors – as shown in the beautiful shot of Maegan and her bridesmaids descending the impressive staircase. In a gown that the bride designed herself, no less, which was then lovingly handmade by her nana’s best friend. We love that so much! It’s these personal touches that make your wedding totally unique!

Proposal
Maegan says: We got engaged on the 31st of March at a family party at Dylan’s parents house. Both my mum and dad and all our friends were there. It was very unexpected and the best surprise. Dylan had asked my mum and dad for their approval a few days before.
Setting
We got married on the 7th of September 2019. We picked this date as we both loved the wedding arch outside at Saltmarshe Hall and wanted it to be warm enough for our guests to be sat outside. We had always wanted a summer wedding so it was perfect for us.
We had our ceremony and reception at Saltmarshe Hall. We loved it so much we wanted to do everything there! The grounds are stunning and the staff so friendly, they all went out of their way to make the day perfect and we can’t recommend them enough. We had so many options for getting married inside or outside. It caters for everyone’s needs and it was a no-brainer for us.
Theme
We didn’t really have a theme as such but we went for more simplistic decor, such as candles and rustic name places to complement an outdoor wedding. We liked the idea of it being very natural.
Our colour scheme was lemon yellow. We chose this as it is a perfect summer wedding colour and not everyone would pick lemon. It looked lovely with the navy suits and almost complemented the outdoor setting we had. Lemon is also my favourite colour!
Dress
I designed my own wedding dress and it was made by my nana’s best friend, Fran Ward. We handpicked the lace from Harrington Bridal Fabrics. It was even more unique to us as we had the venue, the date and our initials stitched into the train of my dress. It’s safe to say I probably had the longest train on the planet! I took a lot of inspiration from Enzoani when designing my dress.
Groomsmen
Dylan’s suits were from Skopes and he had the lemon coloured tie to match the theme and a navy suit. The groomsmen matched Dylan and wore the same suit from Skopes. My brother and both of our dads also wore the same suit.
Bridesmaids
My bridesmaids wore lemon dresses from Joys Bella Bridesmaids. My flower girl’s dress was also made by Fran Ward, using fabric from my dress and fabric from the bridesmaids to make the sash. They all looked beautiful.
Beauty
Amy Halliday MUA did all of our makeup and Eila Rowe at Locks of Love did our hair. Again, they were both amazing.
Transport
We didn’t hire transport. I drove myself and two other bridesmaids to Saltmarshe where we all got ready and had breakfast while we waited for everyone to arrive. We traveled from my mum’s house where the bridesmaids and I had slept the night before.
Photographer
Ray and Julie did our photography and they were perfect! They are so kind and caring and they still keep in contact with us. You can tell they are so invested into what they do and always go above and beyond to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. We will love our photographs forever and will 100% will be using them for all our photography requirements from now on.
Videographer
Our videographer was Blue Moon films. She was wonderful and I can’t stop watching our wedding video. Again she was spot on and knew exactly what she was doing. She captured the day beautifully.
Styling
We chose Milners in Goole as our florist and they did an amazing job. They did everything for us; placing flowers all the way along the staircase, providing centrepieces for the ceremony and arrangements around the venue, buttonholes and, of course, the bouquets. We chose a selection of different flowers to make up the bouquets. We had white gerberas, gypsophila, white roses and lots of greenery to accompany the flowers.
We also had Ambience Venue Styling help us with the set up throughout the day. As well as the reception they also did the ceremony and the wedding breakfast. One of my favourite things was the blossom tree arch we had near the door.
We had UNVEILED Network Member Love Lights The Way do our giant M&D lights for the hallway and they also placed lights down the aisle for us.
Favours
We gave everyone their wooden name place and we had small jars with M&Ms in them. The M&Ms were lemon and white with our initials printed on them.
Cake
Julie Turton from The Cake Emporium Thorne made our amazing cake! We had a different flavour for each layer and each one was delicious. We had salted caramel, strawberry and raspberry sponge, and red velvet.
Dining
We had soup for starters, beef for main and apple pie for dessert. We had this purely because we thought it sounded delicious. We had white and red wine on every table and throughout the night.
Entertainment
We had Serenade String Quartet for the morning as we thought they played beautifully when we heard them previously. In the evening we had Dylan’s best man’s father, Steve Hatton, to DJ as we have been to a few of his parties in the past and he knows his music.
We had a photo booth for people to take pictures with props and place them in a book and write a message for us underneath. It still provides me with a good laugh. My flower girl, Maddie, enjoyed it a lot!

I would recommend everyone we used, they were all so friendly and helpful. Ray and Julie, our photographers, in particular, did extra with regards to ensuring we got every special moment and memory captured. They are a lovely caring couple and our photographs are amazing, we would recommend them to anyone looking to get married.
Saltmarshe is a beautiful venue and, as I mentioned before, the staff are amazing. They know exactly how to make your day perfect and make it run so smooth. They have so much space and the rooms are stunning. We can’t wait to go back for our anniversary.
Best bit
My favourite part was the wedding breakfast and just taking five minutes to sit and look round the terrace, and just see all of our family and friends laughing and having fun.
Honeymoon
We are yet to go on honeymoon as we moved straight into our new house after the wedding, but we have plans to go to Barbados next year.
Advice
Our top tip would be to try to chill out as best you can because you will actually miss all the stressing and planning and excitement when it’s over. The day goes too quickly so make sure you enjoy it and don’t waste the day worrying about things. Take five minutes to just breathe and take in everything around you.
We attended a few of the Brides Up North wedding fairs and had UNVEILED magazines to look at for inspiration too. We also used the Brides Up North site to find out tips etc from other couples.
Our other tip would be that if you go with an experienced photographer, they can help you with your timeline of your day, which was really useful.
