Wendy Makin for a Chic Wedding at Eaves Hall – Sarah & Adam

Alexis Forsyth

Today’s super stylish wedding is brimming with lots of beautiful details and special touches, including a sprinkling of velvet and gold for something truly luxe, and a memorable message from the singer behind their first dance song!

Hosting both their ceremony and celebrations at the stunning Eaves Hall – Sarah and Adam tied the knot in February 2020 following a romantic Christmas-time proposal.

They opted for a modern boho look, pairing this beautiful theme with a gold and green colour scheme, and plenty of foliage and greenery in their floral arrangements. We’re talking a flower arch, canopy and even a blossom tree – not to mention ‘flower bombs’ for their table centrepieces. All very pretty and full of lushness!

They also went big when it came to their entertainment, treating their guests not only to a photobooth and a DJ, but also a sax and percussion act, an acoustic singer during the day, and even a magician. Ready to join in with the celebrations? We are SO ready!

Let’s find out more from bride Sarah…

We always put our Christmas tree up on 1st December, and in 2018, while we were decorating it, Adam had bought a bauble filled with chocolates which he went on to drop and break on purpose, and ended up on one knee. I always said I never wanted a public proposal so it was perfect!

We tied the knot on 8th February 2020. We wanted a December wedding, but with venues being sold out for 2019 and not wanting to wait until Christmas 2020 (so glad we didn’t now!) we just went with the first Saturday our venue had available, which was near Valentine’s Day.

We got married at Eaves Hall in Clitheroe. We wanted a venue where we could host both the ceremony and reception, and also have our guests stay over as we had family travelling from all over the country.

I also loved the modern airy feel of the ballroom, and all the rooms had a good flow.

I am very indecisive but I aimed for a ‘boho modern’ theme throughout, and just knew I had to have velvet! We also went for a gold and green palette. I didn’t want to take away from the venue’s décor, so I wanted something simple but also wanted to bring a modern touch.

I’m not your typical girly girl so straightaway knew that I wanted something plain and fitted. My dress was ‘Chloe’ by French by Wendy Makin and I bought it from UNVEILED Network Member boutique The Aisle in Ilkley. I had my dress altered at The Stitching Station in Elland as it was closer to home and I also purchased my Joyce Jackson veil from there. I wore earrings from Amelie George and my shoes were from Harriet Wilde.

Adam wore a Marc Darcy suit and bow tie, and his shoes were from Next. Our groomsmen also wore Marc Darcy suits with personalised tie clips from Etsy.

My bridesmaids wore the Serene maxi dress by TFNC in navy. They were great because you can order them in petite, regular, or tall which saves on alterations.

I had two makeup artists – Lucie Makeup Artist and Alex Kate Makeup Artistry. Our hair was done by Charlotte Medford Bridal.

Eaves Hall provides a lodge within the grounds the night prior to the wedding, and luckily the sun was out so I just walked up to the main building.

Sarah Maria Photography captured our day. Sarah’s motto is ‘for brides more chilla than zilla’ with an emphasis on natural unposed photos, which was perfect for me as I didn’t want to take up too much of the day with everyone posing for photos.

I spent hours researching photographers and would highly recommend Sarah – she blended in, and our guests loved her.

My videographer was Top Table Films. I spent hours researching videographers until I found one that made me cry! I knew as soon as I saw Jon’s videos that I wanted him and although he was based in Northumberland I was thrilled to hear he was willing to shoot in Lancashire.

My bridesmaids and I all had green foliage bouquets with blue ribbon. A family friend works at The Jackson Flower Co in Elland, so they did the bridal party bouquets and buttonholes, and then Wildfire Floral Co in Barnoldswick and Creative Events based in Preston – both more local to the venue – decorated Eaves Hall.

Wildfire Floral Co provided all our floral decorations including a flower arch at the bottom of the aisle, a floral canopy on our sweetheart table and flower bomb table centrepieces. They also supplied candles down the aisle and small touches such as the registry table, table plan, and cake décor. We also had a small sprig of greenery on each place setting.

Creative Events supplied a blossom tree on entry into the hall, an aisle carpet, postbox, and champagne velvet tablecloths which were a personal favourite!

I had a few signs dotted around the venue too, including cake flavours and order of the day and these were created by UNVEILED Network Member Lucy McSpirit Design & Stationery in white with gold print. Our confetti was supplied by UNVEILED Network Member Adamapple.

My mother-in-law sorted the favours; Pandora charms for the female guests, personalised money clips for the male guests, and activity packs for the children.

Sugar Wishes Cakes made our three-tier semi-naked cake with gold leaf décor to tie in with the gold theme, and we chose oreo, Victoria sponge and sticky toffee layers. We also had a cake topper from MD LaserWorks.

For our meal, we gave our guests a choice and let them pre-order. Our starters included goat’s cheese mousse, poached salmon, and leek and potato soup, followed by an intermediate course of champagne sorbet. For our mains, the choice included either chicken, beef brisket, or cherry tomato risotto. To finish off the meal, there was sticky toffee pudding and glazed lemon tart.

I actually bumped into an Eaves Hall bride at one of their open days and she told me if I ever got married there to definitely get the sorbet and I am so glad I did – it just brought the dining experience to another level.

Eaves Hall provided a DJ from DFC Lancashire, and when looking on their website I came across an acoustic singer called Laura J. She sang during our ceremony and drinks reception and I would highly recommend her. In the evening, we wanted an Ibiza vibe so hired sax and percussion from Girls That Mix to accompany the DJ.

Reflections Entertainment also supplied us with a photo booth, and we booked magician, Darren Robinson.

Special touches

My grandma unfortunately passed away a few months before the wedding. Butterflies always remind me of her, so I wore a 18ct white gold butterfly bracelet by Annoushka and also had a candle lit to have her there with us.

Our first dance was ‘Cheerleader’ by J.P Cooper, who also sent us a video wishing us a great day on the morning of the wedding!

Thanks to

Eaves Hall is great for couples who want everything in one place, and they have 30 rooms available so you can see a lot of your guests at breakfast too!

You have total control of the venue, so you can get married in a choice of two rooms. I got married in one room and ate in another so it meant no changing around, with guests hovering around. You can also open or close rooms – including the pool room – as you please.

Best bit

We had a sweetheart table, just the two of us, and I loved looking round the room seeing everyone enjoying the day, and also getting some time alone with my new husband!

We went to Lux South Ari Atoll in the Maldives and stopped off at Jebel Ali in Dubai on the way home. The Maldives was absolute heaven as we stayed in a water villa which we had never done before! I was worried Adam would get bored, but we could have stayed there for longer and there were plenty of activities and watersports.

Don’t sweat the small stuff and plan the day around what you and your fiancé want, not what you think everyone else would want. As long as you are both having fun then everyone else will too! Make sure you make time for just the two of you as well.

I used the Brides Up North website for inspiration and to look at suppliers as I really didn’t know where to start!
