From the romantic and festive pyjama proposal (getting any ideas, anyone?) to the surprise saxophonist, brewery venue and personalised beer label, these ladies are doing their big day their way and it’s been jam-packed full of lovely treats and surprises for everyone along the way!
There’s absolutely no way we could pick a favourite between these two perfect and totally different dresses, as beautiful and individual as the lovely brides wearing them. We’ve got both House of Nicholas and Enzoani gowns for you to lust over here, plus plenty of real rustic farmyard-come-brewery styling.
With a simple sage and white palette that accentuates rather than detracts from the character of the barn, fun festoon lighting and a classic marquee to party the night away in, Jane and Kirstie’s wedding day is bound to get you newly-engaged readers giddy for your own wedding planning journey to begin!

Proposal
It was Christmas Eve 2019. We usually take turns getting Christmas Eve boxes for each other. This year it was Kirstie’s turn so she put the engagement ring inside the box with some Champagne and PJs with ‘wifey’ written on. Jane took so long admiring the wifey PJs, still oblivious to the ring box but when she eventually realised, she was totally surprised and very emotional. She eventually said yes!
Setting
We tied the knot on the 17th of July 2021. We wanted a summer date as the venue we decided on, High House Farm Brewery, had lovely outdoor space.
We chose it as we loved the relaxed, rustic style and fact that it was a family run business. Heather and her family were so welcoming and flexible, and we liked that we could put our own touches on our wedding day. The cost of the day was also very reasonable and we had tried the food which was amazing so it really was a no brainer!
Theme
It was quite a rustic, relaxed theme. We chose this as we loved the rustic feel and wanted guests to feel relaxed and enjoy the day. Our colour scheme was sage and white with wood as we felt it fitted in well with the venue.
Dress
Kirstie wore a dress from Blue Bow Bridal by Enzoani. She chose it as she loved the colour, the fit and felt amazing in it.
Jane went to the Wedding Wardrobe and chose a dress by House of Nicholas as she felt like a princess.
Bridesmaids
Our bridesmaid dresses were from ASOS as it was difficult to shop for the dresses during COVID19 lockdown.
Beauty
Our hair was done by Hair by Cheryl and makeup by White Cloud Studio. Both amazing and would highly recommend both these girls. We both loved our hair and makeup, plus on the morning of the wedding they were both so relaxed and helpful.
Photographer
Our photographer was Edward Ashley Photography. We could not recommend him enough. Not only are we thrilled with the pictures but Ed was so friendly and helpful in the run up to the wedding, being on hand to assist with queries and on the day, he was so calming and helpful. We highly recommend him. All our family and friends were commenting on how lovely, friendly and helpful the photographers were.
Styling
We both carried bouquets and we had a flower arch and table flowers. All flowers from The Little Flower House in Cramlington.
We hired the marquee from Collingwood Marquees. We would recommend them for their fabulous marquees with lovely swags and chandeliers. We were also able to share the cost of the marquee with the couple getting married the day before us and just added a £500 cleaning charge. Our festoon lighting was by North Star Audio Visual Limited who we’d also recommend. The lighting in the outside barn was beautiful.
Favours
We used scratch cards as favours which fitted in with the fun, relaxed theme of the day. People were cheering and whooping when they won although there were no big winners unfortunately!
Cake
A family friend called Noreen made our cake, it was fantastic and absolutely delicious.
The cake was three tiers and we chose lemon and poppyseed, Snickers and white chocolate and raspberry as the three flavours.
Dining
The venue was very flexible and let us design our own menu and give our guests choices for each course. We decided to go for a two-course traditional wedding breakfast followed by a help-yourself cake table.
Starters were a choice of goat’s cheese and red onion bruschetta, chicken liver parfait or garlic mushrooms. Mains were roast sirloin of beef, chicken in a white wine and mushroom cream or cranberry, brie and mushroom Wellington. Dessert was a selection of ten different cakes, tray bakes and puddings for guests to help themselves to.
Wine served was a red Cabernet Sauvignon and a white Sauvignon Blanc. White wine is our favourite and the red was chosen by Kirstie’s Grandad who loves red wine! We had prosecco as a reception and toast drink, and a hand-pulled beer with our own beer tag as a welcome drink too.
Entertainment
Redwings Band came recommended by Jane’s sister who had seen them at a previous wedding. As a surprise Kirstie also booked Girl on Sax to play in between band sets as we both love that style of music.
Special touches
We had ice cream canapes, which went down a treat as on the day the weather was absolutely boiling.
As mentioned, we designed our own beer keg label which was on display on the day, both on the bar and as a welcome drink. Just for a bit of fun.
We wrote our own vows and kept these a secret until the day. This was so emotional and personal.

We really do highly recommend our venue, they were so helpful and reassuring in the lead up to the wedding. Heather, Gary and the team could not do more for us. They were so relaxed on the day and ensured everything ran smoothly. All our family and friends were commenting on how lovely and helpful the staff were. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, set in the Northumberland countryside.
Best bit
We both said our best bit was the ceremony because it was so personal and emotional. It was special having all our family and friends with us.
Honeymoon
We had originally planned to go to Africa, however due to COVID19 we changed this plan and went to North Wales for a week after the wedding, then we went to The Cotswolds, Bath, Stratford Upon Avon and did a tour of Cornwall and Devon. It was so nice to explore our wonderful country – something we probably wouldn’t have done otherwise.
Advice
Our advice would be to plan YOUR day how YOU want it! Take some time out just the two of you on the day to absorb the day and try to take everything in as the day just flies by. Have the best day!
