If you’re a fellow ‘pinner’ like today’s bride, you might want to add this one to your Dream Wedding Pinterest board! Muted, soft tones, boho in beige and pared back Northumbrian style. Sounds idyllic, right?
Wedding planning is a journey in itself. From the first hopes and dreams to the logistics and bookings, it comes together, piece by piece, along the way. But who says you can’t change your mind at any point?! Our gorgeous couple decided to cancel their Santorni wedding after seeing The Parlour, as they simply couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. Sounds like love at first sight to us!
Let’s head over to the stunning Blagdon Estate in Northumberland, and follow Lucy and Andrew as they tie the knot in the perfect English, early-summer wedding…

Proposal
It was Christmas Day 2021. I had always said if he was going to propose, not to do it on a day like Valentines, New Year or Christmas. So Andrew, of course, did it on Christmas Day, when I had no idea at all and was completely surprised. He got down on one knee as the sun was setting, with the perfect setup of roses, candle lights and letters that read ‘will you marry me’ and my family were all there. I wouldn’t change it, it was perfect.
Setting
We were originally booked to get married in Santorini on May 4th 2023. We booked The Parlour at Blagdon as our home wedding party on May 14th 2023, but we ended up falling in love with The Parlour at Blagdon and I actually just wanted to get married there. We cancelled Santorini, which was perfect in the end as some of my family members who weren’t able to fly to Santorini could now come to the wedding.
I saw The Parlour on Instagram originally and fell in love with the look of it, it was exactly what I had pictured my own wedding to look like. Every time I went to view it, I just couldn’t picture myself getting married anywhere else.
Theme
I’ve always had my ‘dream wedding’ Pinterest board (like most girls) and whenever I’d see something I liked I would add it to my secret board. When I first got engaged and looked at Pinterest I think my wedding style was already there. It was very boho and rustic vibes, with nudes, beiges, and muted shades.
Dress
My dress was Winter by Maggie Sottero. My sister and I were sending each other different dress ideas for a while and she sent me a photo of Winter by Maggie Sottero and I thought it would be perfect. My sister, my mam and I went to the Wedding Wardrobe Bridal Boutique in Chester le Street for a bridal appointment and we were looking through the racks of amazing dresses and my sister pointed one dress out and said “oh that looks beautiful” and it was Winter! It was THE dress. I tried it on straight away and fell in love. I didn’t want to take it off so I knew it would be my dress.
Groomsmen
Andrew wore a suit from Asos which we also got for our best man, groomsman and father of the groom and bride. We got so many compliments on them, the colour worked perfectly with my colour scheme. Our best man was actually our son, Henry, who is 6. Asos don’t do children’s clothing so our local alteration shop, Zig Zag’s in Washington, managed to make men’s trousers and a waistcoat into a child size for Henry. It was the super skinny wool mix suit in blush pink twill.
Bridesmaids
I only had my maid of honour, Stacey, my sister. She wore a white embellished flutter sleeve maxi dress from Hope & Ivy.
Beauty
For makeup we had Makeup by Ashley and Charlotte. They were lovely girls and were very reliable. We had our trial on the morning of my Hen do so it worked very well.
For hair we had Rochelle from Hair by W.B. Rochelle was honestly amazing throughout the full process. From booking, to trials, to more trials because I was so indecisive and then on the wedding morning. Rochelle had such a calming, fun presence which was perfect for the morning of the wedding and helped keep me relaxed. It was like she was part of the bridal party she fitted right in and was happy to help with so many different things.
Photographer
I would recommend Chelsea Leigh Photography to absolutely everyone, she was honestly amazing and made our day so fun and easy! She made the whole process so simple and provided all the information, so I rarely had to ask any questions. I found Chelsea’s profile on Instagram and the style of photography and mood of her edits is exactly what I was looking for.
She was originally just booked for the UK evening celebration but, before I cancelled Santorini, I messaged Chelsea to see if she would be able to be our photographer for the full day including the ceremony.
On the wedding morning, as soon as Chelsea arrived she was helping bring suitcases up the stairs of the venue and getting involved in all the preparation, which was massively appreciated. I felt like Chelsea was a family member, as she fitted perfectly into my family and friends, and made everything so effortless and easy. We had already discussed exactly what I wanted photography-wise from the day and the outcome of all of the photos were beyond my expectations.
I think as a bride you worry about liking the photos from the wedding but I absolutely love them all.

Styling
My florist was Sophie at SoFloral. I’m extremely lucky to have a best friend who is a florist. I honestly left all creative control down to Sophie because she knows me so well and knew exactly what I would want and she went beyond what I could have dreamt of. The ceremony was truly perfect! All of it was and a lot of people said the flowers made the whole wedding.
My bridal flowers were everything. They were a mixed of fresh and dried including Playa Blanca and Toffee Roses, Eucalyptus, Hydrangea, Fern and Cortaderia. For the decor we added phalaenopsis orchids.
I used Mally’s Crafts for all signage.
Favours
We made our own candles for everyone with Bergamot and Ylang Ylang oils for the perfect spring scent.
Cake
We chose Jane at Happy Tiers to make our wedding cake, as she was local and had been recommended by many people.
We went for a three tier semi naked cake with gold leaf. We had biscoff, vanilla and red velvet. It was beautiful and tasted amazing. We got so many compliments on the cake and how good it tasted!
Dining
We had the option of a chicken dish and a beef dish. There was also a vegetarian option but no one opted for that!
Entertainment
Andrew knew he wanted a casino and blackjack table at the wedding reception. We went with GamesHireUK and we were really pleased with them, and all of our friends and family enjoyed this.
Low Fell Hire Company is also so good! They would post a new product to Instagram and I would message asking to hire it for my wedding. Everything was effortless and very reliable. The polaroid wall and kids games and entertainment were a big hit!
Thanks to
1000% our venue. Everything was PERFECT. From our wedding planner answering a million questions, to the staff on the day who were so friendly and genuinely happy for us. There is nothing I would change from my wedding day at all. I am very grateful to the staff at The Parlour at Blagdon who helped towards creating the most magical day.
Thanks again to Chelsea, of course. I wanted Chelsea to stay and have fun in the evening with us because she fitted in so well with my family and friends.
Thanks also to Sophie, my florist who is crazy talented and no one else would have done the job as good as her. And Rochelle, my hair stylist who managed to tackle my crazy amount of hair and made sure it was perfect and totally ‘me’.
Best bit
Our best bit was after the ceremony, when we could finally breathe, really relax and enjoy the rest of the day!
Honeymoon
We have Paris booked in October, as we’re going to see Luke Combs.
Advice
My top tip for another bride would be to get all of your planning done in advance and leave nothing for the last couple of weeks leading up to the wedding, so it can be exciting and not stressful.
Also, definitely check the Brides Up North Find A Supplier directory out for suppliers. It’s so good having all local supplier recommendations in one place.
