Herve Paris for a Boho Winter Wedding at The Mowbray – Jodie & Ashley

Sarah Symonds

Boho chic is often thought reserved for al fresco weddings with summer festival vibes or autumnal pumpkin tones, but today’s real wedding is a shining example of how boho can be the perfect winter style in the city too. Join us as we recapture the magic of Jodie and Ashley’s big day.

December isn’t all about Christmas either, as our happy couple know only too well as they celebrate their nuptials in a winter church ceremony, followed by a knees-up at utterly unique venue The Mowbray, in the centre of Sheffield.

We’re loving the natural green foliage tones, the classic tweed and the blush nude bridesmaids dresses adding just enough neutrals to really let the rest of the styling sing. Plus, for a touch of edgy cool, you’ll find the bridesmaids and the bride all rocking leather jackets (layering is a must when the wedding is in deepest, darkest December!)

Proposal

Ashley proposed in the Lake District for a birthday weekend away, on the 17th November 2018. He asked in a beautiful place called Cathedral Cave. We eventually arrived at the cave after getting lost, walking miles and miles. I then realised why Ashley was so determined to find it!

Setting

Our wedding date was the 11th of December, we both loved the idea of a winter wedding so we decided for December. We went for the 11th because it was close to what would have been my dad’s 60th birthday on the 12th.

We got married in All Saints Church, Aston. This church meant a lot to us as it’s in the area where we were born and our parents were both married there. We chose The Mowbray for our reception venue as we love the rustic, industrial vibe and it suited us perfectly!

Theme

We wanted quite a rustic, relaxed theme to our wedding to fit our personalities. We are both very chilled people and we love boho style weddings, so we tried to mix boho vibes with a winter wedding theme. We therefore choose our colour scheme based on wintery colours; dark green, gold and deep reds.

Dress

My dress was exactly what I was looking for. The White Yard is amazing for the style I wanted! I wanted a boho style but also something suitable for a winter wedding. I wanted long sleeves and lace. Vouvray by Herve Paris was the perfect dress for me!

My bridesmaids also got me a special gift of a locket, which had a picture of my dad inside so it was as if he walked me down the aisle. I also had my nan’s locket around my bouquet, which had photos of my dad in it.

Groomsmen

We wanted a tweed suit to fit in with the winter wedding theme. He chose to go to Tweed and Groom, the suits were perfect! We would highly recommend it. The groomsmen wore similar but slightly different suits to the groom, which were also from Tweed & Groom.

Bridesmaids

Our bridesmaids wore beautiful dresses from good old ASOS.

Beauty

We hired Hair by Hannah Taylor and Jessica Ley Makeup. They were both amazing!

Transport

We hired a campervan from Love Me Do Wedding Cars for me and Ashley. We also hired a vintage bus for our guests from YesterYear Vintage Vehicle Hire.

Photographer

Our photographer was EKR Pictures. I would definitely recommend her too, she was amazing and such a lovely person.

Styling

We had Betty’s Flower Club working on our flowers, they were all so beautiful on the day. We did some of the decorations ourselves too! Stationery and décor we did ourselves.

Favours

We had limoncello shots for our favours and gold chocolate Christmas coins for the children.

Cake

Our cake was made by Lorien at Storeybook Cakes, which was amazing! We went for a mixture of square and round cakes, with a textured look and fresh flowers from Betty’s Flower Club. We also had some cookies made by Crumbs, they were delicious.

Dining

We had a house wine package and food from The Mowbray, the wines were gorgeous.

Entertainment

We had JayRar Music and he was absolutely brilliant, just what we wanted. We also had a magician who we had met before on a night out and we had to have him for our wedding! He’s called Jordan Maycock.

Thanks to

Each and every one of our suppliers were brilliant! I would recommend them all! We had Wildwood Paper to paint the bride and bridesmaid jackets. Also thanks to The Mowbray, as it’s the most beautiful venue, especially if you like the rustic, industrial look.

Best bit

My favourite part of the day was seeing all our friends and family having a good time! The day was filled with love and enjoyment.

Honeymoon

We went to Budapest for a short city break, it was absolutely beautiful, especially as it was near Christmas time. We visited the Christmas markets and the thermal baths. The food in Budapest is beautiful; we visited an amazing Michelin starred restaurant. It was a lovely experience.

Advice

Our top tip would be to enjoy every moment! Try to spend as much time together as possible. I also used Loved Up North to look for wedding inspiration, it was really helpful.
