A Monochrome Wedding at Newton Hall – Dayna & Kieran

Julia Smith

When it came to planning their big day, Kieran and Dayna had one mission: timeless elegance with a side of serious style. And let’s just say, they absolutely nailed it.

Their monochrome celebration at the stunning Newton Hall was a masterclass in chic sophistication, packed with heartfelt moments, effortlessly cool details, and a dance floor that saw more action than a Saturday night in Newcastle.

From Kieran’s bold proposal in the chaos of Barcelona to a day overflowing with love and laughter in the North East, this duo’s journey to “I do” is nothing short of iconic.

Proposal

In May 2022, Kieran and I went on a trip to Barcelona. It didn’t start smoothly, as our flights were delayed, but everything changed when Kieran proposed on the first night. He had a ring in his pocket, determined to pop the question. After a few near-misses with restaurants and rooftop bars, he finally got down on one knee outside a busy bar, and the rest is history.

Wedding Date

We tied the knot on Saturday, 15th February 2025, just after Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t intentional, but it now gives us a lovely time to celebrate our anniversary. Hopefully, Kieran will never forget!

Venue

Newton Hall was the perfect venue for us. From the moment we arrived, we loved the exclusivity and how special it felt. The grand entrance, stunning grounds, and elegant interiors made it the ideal backdrop for our monochrome wedding.

It is a magical place to get married!

Theme

I had a vision of a monochrome colour scheme when we started planning, and my obsession with the idea grew as time went on. It’s so classic and simply elegant – exactly what I wanted.

Bride

My bridal gown was a total surprise. I found it at Accent Original in Newcastle, and it was designed by Essence of Australia. Anna, the bridal shop assistant, picked it out as a “wild card,” and it was the opposite of what I thought I’d choose. It was a princess-style dress with a huge train and a personalised veil from The Wedding Veil Shop– and it was perfect.

Groom

Kieran and his groomsmen wore sharp tuxedos from Moss Bros, which complemented our black-and-white theme beautifully.

Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore long black dresses of their choice, so they felt comfortable and confident.

Beauty

My bridal party’s make up was done by Rebecca Dialani, a gorgeous bridal makeup artist based in Newcastle. Our hair was done by the fabulous stylist Elysia Todd, based in Sunderland and who also happens to be one of my best friends.

Photography

Our photographers, Belle Studio (Faye and Davy), were incredible. They had a relaxed, natural approach that suited us perfectly. Kieran isn’t really one for standing posing all day, so I knew it was very important for us to have a photographer that was relaxed and natural. They captured our day perfectly whilst also letting us enjoy the time as much as possible with our friends and family. They blended in like guests and got some natural shots of us and our guests which we loved. We would recommend them to anyone! Davy was a great guy on the day and helped put us both at ease! We had such a laugh with them from start to finish.

Content Creation

We had a content creator called Ruby McPhail at The Brides Vision. She was able to capture small snapshots of our day, and create gorgeous reels of our day, ready for the very next day.

Floral Design

Our floral arrangements were simple and elegant, featuring long-stem white roses and gypsophila from Little Wild Stems in Sunderland. The bridal party had long stem white roses to carry and even after being thrown in the air during my bouquet toss, they were in perfect condition, and I still have them weeks later!

Cake

Our wedding cake was a two-tier creation by Wedding Cakes by Sara, with a raspberry and white chocolate flavour. It was decorated with pearls and a black ribbon, echoing our classic aesthetic.

Favours

We decided to do edible favours, to keep our guests going during the dancing. We had ‘his and hers favourites’ sweet packets. My favourites were fizzy watermelon sweets and Kieran’s favourites were chocolate buttons.

Entertainment

Music was a big part of our day. During the wedding breakfast, we had an amazing acoustic singer Richard Sutton, who we booked through AMV Live Music. Later, DJ Steven Maddison was incredible and kept the dance floor packed, taking requests and ensuring the party lasted all night!

Kieran and I decided to pick the aisle song together, however, after sitting in the car one day and hearing a song which Kieran explained reminded him of me, I spent the next four months listening to the lyrics and fell in love. I decided to change the aisle song to this without him knowing so this was a complete surprise to him on the day.

Special Touches

I added a personal touch to my veil by having it customised with our names and the wedding date.

We set up a magic mirror photo booth from AG Events for our guests, which captured fun memories. These were later compiled into a scrapbook for us to keep.

Honeymoon

After the wedding, we had a mini-moon in the Lake District, staying at Lodore Falls and a lodge in Keswick. We spent our time walking, relaxing, and enjoying great food and drink. Later this year, we’re planning a full honeymoon to Dubai and Thailand.

Best Bit

My favourite moment was seeing Kieran at the end of the aisle, while Kieran loved the anticipation of waiting for me. Walking into the ceremony as husband and wife, surrounded by our loved ones, was unforgettable for both of us.
