Let’s get things started with a fresh and funky monochrome wedding in the North West, sent to me by real bride Louise and photography duo, Ben & Sarah Photography. How full of beans is our groom?

Louise says: Ben asked me to marry him on 24th October 2010 on the sea front in Liverpool on a freezing cold evening! We tied the knot on 22nd October 2012 at St. Mary’s Chapel in Aughton then The Rufford Arms Hotel for our reception. We loved the fact that the church was so quaint and in the middle of miles and miles of open fields.

We had a colour scheme of red, purple, black & white. We asked everyone to dress in any of those colours in whatever way they liked!

I chose a puff ball/fishtail style dress. It was a Mark Lesley couture gown but I had the black bow put on it myself to give it my twist, that way I knew no one else would ever have the same one. I also changed the tie up the back to a black tie on the evening, it was ivory to match the dress in the day time.
.
I carried a bouquet of blood red calla lilies.

My older bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses and the children wore Monsoon. The young page boys wore H&M waistcoat suits with Dessy bow ties and the groomsmen wore plain black suits from Slaters in Liverpool. Very reservoir dogs! Ben wore a The Kooples three piece plain black suit from Selfridges.

I travelled in a black hackney taxi. I thought this was a little quirky and different compared to the ‘classic’ cars that most people use!

I tried to do most of the things myself as far as table decorating and the cake. I think that these were the special touches for our day. We also had a gospel choir called Love & Joy Gospel Choir that sang at the Liverpool Hillsborough Memorial Service to sing during the church service.

My favourite part of the day was the moment we were pronounced man and wife!

We had our reception at The Rufford Arms Hotel in Rufford. All the food was locally sourced from local farms, that was important to us! It was also a family run hotel and only open to us for the whole day. This definitely made it a lot more personal.

I made the cakes myself: cupcakes, red and purple on a seven tiered stand.

In the evening we had a singer called Gary Carney, again a local guy that had a great selection of music from old to new suitable for all guests. He also did the dj’ing too.

After the wedding we went to Sri-Lanka, then onto the Maldives and Dubai. It was three weeks in total and the most magical experience ever!

My top tip for Brides Up North would be to try to do most things yourself, it gives a much more personal feel on the day.

Congratulations Louise & Ben!
