Julia Smith

.

These crazy cats surprised the guests at their son’s Christening with their Real Wedding! The result: a magical day full of love and homemade details. Very sweet!

Joanne lets us in on the secret: Ian and I have been together for over 18 years and we have four wonderful children together. With having our children quite young, marriage was always put on the back-burner,  then in November last year we finally set the date, however we like to do things a bit different and decided to have a surprise wedding.

The wedding took place in Derbyshire on Saturday 17th July 2010 . All the guests were at the church to attend our youngest son, Max’s Christening. The groom and our two boys arrived a couple of minutes before me and then I entered to the Bridal March with my two daughters and dad.

The look of shock on everyone’s faces was unforgettable! Our daughters who were my bridesmaids didn’t know about the Wedding until two days before, our eldest son (both were Ushers) and my Dad found out the night before and our youngest son whose Christening Day it was, was told on the morning of the Wedding! Both our Mums knew plus a few key friends who helped with the plans.

We then followed the Wedding and Christening on with an English Tea Party theme back at our house with a marquee in the garden. This was decorated with bunting and paper lanterns, with china cups and saucers and English garden flowers. We had a hog roast and an amazing table of cakes & desserts.

We also had a homemade photo booth which was a great hit. Guests donned fancy dress and took photos with an instant camera so that they could be placed in our guest book with their messages.

There was very much a home-made feel to the day, the wedding favours were small jars of jams made by myself, the chairs were decorated with wooden hearts also made by me.

We had a wonderful day in spite of the rain and hope this shines through in our pictures. Although we had waited for so long to get married it was definitely worth the wait!
