I went to law school (yep, law school! Haven’t you read my About page yet?) with this gorgeous girl, and am very excited to feature her Real Wedding on the blog today. Not only are Becky and Andrew a truly beautiful couple, but they used some fantastic Yorkshire suppliers, and that makes Brides Up North a very very happy girl indeed! 🙂

Over to the new Mrs S: After 7 years together my now husband, Andrew, proposed by the banks of the Seine in Paris. It was incredibly romantic and set the theme for our special day. We married on 19 June 2010 in my parent’s village church in Kirklevington, near Yarm followed by a fabulous reception at the beautiful country house hotel, Crathorne Hall. I can genuinely say it was the best day of my life. Not only did I get to marry by best friend but after all of the months of planning, everything came together on the day and it was just perfect.

After trying on nearly every dress in West Yorkshire with my mum and friend Joelle in tow, I finally went for a strapless slim line dress with a lace overlay by Sottero and Midgley from the lovely ladies at The Bridal Boutique, Guiseley. I wanted a dress I could feel fabulous in all day without it restricting my every move and this dress was absolutely perfect. I fell in love with the intricate lace train and cute empire waistline.

We hired a gorgeous coffee and cream vintage 1952 Bentley to take us from the church to the reception. As it was only a couple of minutes up the road the driver took us on a slight detour to allow us to drink our champagne in a much more leisurely fashion.

We had the most brilliant photographers on the day in Andy and Gill Sutcliffe, who put us and our guests at ease from the outset. We couldn’t recommend them any more highly.

My beautiful bridesmaids wore sage green prom style dresses made by Nicola Russell in Middlesbrough. I struggled to find a style of dress I liked so combined a few ideas and had these made. Their outfits were completed with vintage accessories from Glitzy Secrets and Accessorize. Andrew and the boys wore grey morning suits, with ivory waist coats and silver cravats. Andrew wore a sage green cravat. Their outfits were completed with Amnesia rose button holes.

I wanted a vintage look for the day and knew exactly the look I wanted for my flowers. Fortunately I met the amazingly talented Fiona Pickles, from Firenza Floral Design at the Yorkshire Brides Wedding Fair who was showcasing exactly what I imagined! Our wedding flowers were mainly comprised of Amnesia roses, peonies and stocks in dusky pinks and ivories, complemented with beautifully fragrant herbs. They smelt amazing! Several of the flower displays were contained in ‘shabby chic’ French style urns to complement the theme – suggested by the groom himself!

After the ceremony we had a champagne and canapé reception during which the Josie Smith Quintet entertained our guests. We also put up (selective) photographs from the stag and hen parties to give everyone a bit of a giggle. We knew we wanted a top table, but also wanted to break from tradition slightly so we opted for an oval top table. We also named our tables after famous Parisian landmarks and made the place names from sepia postcards we picked up on our last trip to Paris.

Our favours were heart shaped shortbread biscuits baked by my mother in law herself (which were very popular and yummy) and bagged by me and my fabulous bridesmaid Mianne in a slight frenzy the day before the wedding. Top tip: always leave sufficient time for last minute details!
