Gurpreet tells Brides Up North more: Our wedding was held on Sunday 19 September at 3pm. The venue was Hedsor House in Taplow. We chose the venue after a friend recommended it. Previously we had identified National Trust properties as the ideal venue for us, however the unpredictable weather in September meant that we needed somewhere that was suitable for all forecasts.

I decided to dress my bridesmaids in gold sarees but found it impossible to find gold sarees in the UK. The five bridesmaids saress were sourced from Punjab, India. My sister in law went to India to visit family and managed to find five (two different types), she did a very good job indeed.

My outfit was chosen at a shop called Santoshi in Southall. I knew I wanted to wear traditional red with traditional green trimming and gold embroidery. When I saw my chosen outfit in the shop it was blue with a very short top, so I told the designer I wanted the top to be longer and the outfit in red. Once I chose the shade of red I wanted, my measurements were taken and sent to India for the outfit to be tailor-made. I had to visualise the outfit I had chosen in the colour I had chosen and was very concerned it might look hideous when it arrived in the UK.

The caterer was Delhicious Foods. Akhil the co owner of the company was our point of contact and he catered for the wedding day and the day before when lots of Indian traditional ceremonies took place. Akhil event-managed the wedding day and was absolutely fantastic, it made arranging a wedding in three months stress free!

During the end of the evening, most of the guests had a few too many drinks and around 10 male guests decided that they would start to dance around on the dance floor to Bhangra music without their shirts on! What was that all about!?

For our honeymoon, we travelled around New Zealand for three weeks and then relaxed in Fiji for a week.
Our friend that got us together 7 years ago lives in New Zealand so we thought it would be appropriate to complete the circle and see him.
