How did you get into wedding photography?

.
Well I kind of got to college and really didn’t know what to do with myself so I signed up to do a load of earth science courses loving the idea of the field trips. However this all changed when I met my the beautiful Anna, she was just about the start her degree in Fashion and asked my help in forming her portfolio. I had never really thought about photography before but after shooting some models for Anna, I  realized that here was an opportunity for me to build a career for myself.

.

I spent the next year putting together my own portfolio and was lucky enough to be accepted into Manchester Metropolitan University on the  BA (Hons) Photography course by my tutor. I loved ever minute, when we were not out project shooting, we were in the darkroom processing and printing our own images. I found all these wonderful artists and photographers who have and still inspire me  with their work and
experimentation. I graduated from University with my degree and was lucky enough to be featured in the Catapult show at Urbis which exhibited the best up and coming artists and photographers from the
North West, shortly after I set up Lee Brown Photography, started shooting weddings and haven’t looked back since.

Why wedding photography specifically?

.
Wedding photography is amazing, we as photographers are invited to spend time with a family during a very special and often very emotional time in their lives. I get to meet some amazing people both as clients and fellow suppliers and I get to travel and photograph in some awesome locations around the country. There is so much room for creativity and spontaneity within photographing a wedding compared to photographing say, a plate of food and I think this is what instantly attracted me to this genre of photography.

Any advice to any brides who don’t like to have their picture taken?

.
A bit of Champagne never goes a miss on your wedding day, it’ll help relax you and bring out a bit of confidence. Don’t go mad before your ceremony though!

What sort of makeup should a bride wear to look great in her pictures?

.
My only advice is don’t over do it, you want to look beautiful but subtle also. Use matt foundation rather than gloss, we want you to shine on your wedding day, but not literally.

Anything to avoid which might look bad in the wedding pictures?

I guess too much of that Champagne too early!

Which celebrity wedding would you most like to photograph and why?

.
Nancy Sorrell and Vic Reeves, she’s stunning, he’d be a right laugh to photograph and I’m a big Shooting Stars fan too!

.

.
If you were photographer at the Royal Wedding, what would be your "must have" shot?

.
Prince William on horseback as a knight in shining armour rescuing Kate  Middleton from a fire breathing dragon, that would be amazing!

.
Any memorable weddings that you have captured?

.
The wedding of Nicola and Glyn at Mount Pleasant was a really special wedding. I’ve been great friends with Nic & Glyn for years and I know how close Nic is to her Grandad, however due to ill health he couldn’t
attend the wedding and we all knew that Nic was devastated. However unknown to anyone, Glyn had recorded a personal video message for  Nicola from her Grandad and played it to her during his speech on a laptop. As soon as the video started to play, he told his little granddaughter how proud he was and how much he loved her. Seeing this Nicola just fell apart, followed by pretty much everyone in the room including me. Glyn’s toast was to his beautiful wife and to the health of her Grandad, simple but a very beautiful moment.

Are you married?

.

I’m not married yet, I’ve been engaged to Anna for about two years now and we are still planning the day, I’m gaining loads of ideas from all the fantastic weddings I’ve photographed though. Ace part of the job!

.

.
Any funny stories to share?

.
The time the 6 year old best man swapped the solid white gold wedding bands for jellied Haribo rings, the moment when the entire Geordie groom’s party refused to jump in the air because they “weren’t WHAM!”
(think George Michael) and always the semi serious fighting over the bouquet.

What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

.
I love this life, what I do isn’t a job, it’s a privilege.  I know I’m very lucky to be able to make a living from a passion that I have found and I think this shows in the way I work with my clients and their resulting wedding stories.
