Music & Lyrics, A Real Wedding (With A Rock & Roll Twist!) – Michelle & Kieran

You Brides Up North have probably heard of Train, right?  Thought so. They are only the triple Grammy award winning US Band who had a worldwide smash with ‘Drops of Jupiter’ (which happens to be one of my favourite songs) and who had the biggest selling hit on the US Billboard charts last year with ‘Hey Soul Sister’.

.

Well, today’s Real Wedding is a bit of a smash hit too.  Literally.  Brides Up North reader Michelle got in touch with Brides Up North last week to tell me her super cool news!

I’ll let Michelle explain: Me and my hubby are just a normal couple from Consett in County Durham and yet there we are starring in a rock video, which so far has been seen by 17,000 You Tube fans, has three thousand Facebook fans and which has been seen on the profile of over 1.3 million Facebook fans worldwide!

.
Train asked their fans for their ‘Marry Me’ stories a few weeks ago and we sent ours in. We never in a million years thought we’d be selected but we were – and by the three band members themselves!

Kieran and I got married on August 9 2008, at sunset, in Santorini.  Our wedding photographer is a great Newcastle guy called Henry Aarvold and he and his wife travelled out to Santorini with us to do the photo shoot.

.
We didn’t get married until sunset yet Henry worked from 9am to nearly midnight to take photos and create the story of the whole day for us. As if that wasn’t enough we did a ‘trash the dress’ shoot the day after which was just me my new hubby and Henry. It was AMAZING – we spent hours travelling around the island taking photos in tiny villages, in the city centre, down tiny alleyways that looked out to the volcano. Everywhere we went we got stopped by people who wanted to hug us and tell us how beautiful we looked. The beer we had at the end of the day was the best one I’ve ever tasted – we’d earned it! My wedding day was special, but this day with Henry will forever stand out as one of the most wonderful days of my life.I treasure my wedding photos so much and it would be an honour to be featured in your blog.

I thought that our story was something lovely and romantic and an antidote to all the rubbish lots of us have going on in our lives at the moment. And being included in the video seems like a great end to a great story!

Here is the story reported on www.celebritybuzz.com.

And since I know you are all dying to see it – here is Michelle’s email to the band.  I think this tells the story pretty well, wouldn’t you agree?

Hi Guys,

.
This is so exciting!!

.
Here’s our story all the way from Newcastle in the UK.

.
Kieran and I are a holiday romance – one that’s been going strong for nearly 11 years now and we could pinpoint a Train song for all of the most important parts of our life together.

.

We met in Corfu in 2000, I was 21 and Kieran was 20, it was my first night and his last night. We spent 16 hours talking, laughing and then crying as we said goodbye. My friends just laughed when I said to them, "I think I’ve met the man I’m going to marry."

.
Little did I know…

.
It’s a bit mad to get on a train down to London to spend 5 days with a bloke you’ve only known for 16 hours, but that’s what I did two weeks and one 5 hour telephone conversation later. And the rest, they say is history…

.
Our first holiday was in Kefalonia in 2001 and one of the bars kept playing this amazing song; we had no clue who it was, we just knew we liked it. One night the power went off across the whole village and the Milky Way and Jupiter exploded into view and we just stood on our balcony being so awed at this magical display. When I got home and returned to humdrum life I was driving my car a few weeks later and this song came on the radio and I instantly recognised it – it was the song from the bar. Well, I cried and cried (and got some funny looks!); this song seemed to be about us, it was perfect.

.
So Kieran being Kieran got on the internet (not that it was much good back then!) and found out who this ‘Train’ were and we were hooked! The next year we came to see you at the church in London where you could drink beer and had the most amazing night.

.
We travelled between London and Newcastle for 5 years before Kieran finally moved up to my little town of Consett and life was good.

.
In 2006 we went to Rhodes and Kieran proposed to me, under the Milky Way with Drops of Jupiter playing in the background. Then, in 2008, we got married at sunset, on the magical Greek island of Santorini, and we said our vows just as the sun was disappearing and the stars were blinking into view.

.
I walked down the isle to 100 Years by Five for Fighting but you guys were our First Dance in our little taverna on the beach with the Midnight Moon watching over us. I was pregnant with Quinn Carter, our first little boy, by the end of our honeymoon. Quinn is now 21months and we now have Albie Valentine who is 6 months old. Just tonight Quinn was dancing to ‘Save Me San Francisco’ in the car – for a little ginger kid my boy has the moves!

.
We were booked to see you last year in London and my goodness we were soooo excited and then you blumming well went and changed the date to Quinn’s first birthday – how could you??!!!  We were torn – Train or our little boy’s 1st birthday -  it was a tough decision but we choose you. Only joking! But Kieran still thinks that it would’ve been a great story to tell Quinn if we had of come to see you instead.

.
We made it to Manchester in October and it was worth the wait. Every song was special and we stood outside in the cold to say hi afterwards, but I was dumbstruck and couldn’t even speak. I don’t know if Scott remembers the girl who tried to take a photo of him, but just kept taking photos of herself because she was so nervous she was pointing the camera the wrong way…yup, that was me!

.
I know you just asked for the ‘marry me’ story and I’ve given you our life story but… it’s been an amazing 11 years. I love Kieran and my boys so much and Train have been a huge part of our lives and we really hope that continues so that we can bring Quinn and Albie along to a gig one day. You’ll spot the ginger kids with the moves no bother!

.
Thank you for giving us so many happy memories.

.
From the bottom of our hearts,

.
Michelle and Kieran Rose
