How did you get into wedding photography?
.
(Fyzal) I’ve always been a keen camera enthusiast and my background is in PCs, design & print and I’ve worked within the modelling industry in the late 90’s.

After taking some pictures at a friend’s wedding, we went to have them printed at a local lab as a gift. The lab assistant questioned the authenticity of the images and asked if we were the official photographers as they looked like professional images. After proving that we had taken the pictures this then gave us the confidence to start our wedding photography business…The rest as they say is history! 🙂

Why wedding photography specifically?
.
Wedding photography is probably the most challenging yet rewarding area of photography. To stand out from the many wedding photographers around you not only require creativity and technical ability but also have to be very sociable. We’ve always been creative outgoing people who enjoy socialising. No other job is more rewarding than spending the day documenting a couple looking and feeling their best, on one of the happiest days of their lives…It’s the perfect job and extremely fulfilling!

What is your favourite thing about being a wedding photographer?
.
There’s lots of things, too many to mention, but one of the best things is being able to work together doing something we both love. We found our ideas and thoughts regarding wedding photography often matched that of clients and the ability to connect with them allowed us not only to produce work they loved but also create images that satisfied us as visual artists.

How do you get couples to relax on the day?
.
We offer our clients a very personal service. We meet at least twice before the wedding to discuss details, ideas and generate a rapport. The pre-wedding engagement shoot (E:Shoot) we offer allows us to get to know the couples a little more whilst photographing them in a relaxed, zero pressure environment.

Any advice to any brides who don’t like to have their picture taken?
.
Most people don’t like their picture being taken and the best advice we offer to people like this is to relax. We feel that it’s part of our job to help the couple relax and feel confident in front of the camera. It’s your wedding day, don’t worry about it and trust us, you look amazing! We instil self-confidence and do our very best to reassure them at all times, making sure the experience is as enjoyable as possible.

What sort of makeup should a bride wear to look great in her pictures?
.
Firstly the bride needs to feel comfortable with the make-up that she chooses to wear or the look that she goes with. One thing we would say for brides to bear in mind is that you can afford to go a little heavier as camera lighting and flashes can reduce the appearance of makeup.

Anything to avoid which might look bad in the wedding pictures?
.
Chewing gum, avoid it at all costs, have a Tic Tac! 🙂

…and jazz hands or anything else cheesy that a photographer tells you to do! Ha ha!

Any memorable weddings that you have captured?
.
We’ve captured quite a few throughout the years from an unconventional wedding at a Cantonese restaurant where the bride wore a dress based on one of Rhianna’s famous dresses to a huge extravagant Asian/Scottish wedding lasting three days which was covered by the media. We’ve been flown out to Cyprus to document a wedding and have had the privilege of capturing a wedding at one of the most breath-taking locations right on our own door step…Durham Cathedral!

Are you married?
.
We certainly are, 4 years this August – to each other! Our wedding was amazing and we wish we could do it all again! Hardwick Hall was the venue and because we don’t have huge extended families, our wedding was attended by close family and friends who made it very special and intimate. We had a great day and most things went to plan however it did rain a little but that didn’t deter as we made up for it on the evening. A lot of our friends are musicians and DJs and contributed towards making our evening reception very memorable.

Any funny stories to share?
.
We did have one mother of the bride who insisted on calling Fyzal, Diesel. After the wedding it became a standing joke that we shared with the family.

What sets you apart from other wedding photographers?
.
We’re fresh, fun, flexible and extremely passionate about our work. There is no second shooter in our team, each one of us is as important as the other and we feel our clients benefit from this by having two creative perspectives. As we don’t follow a set of rules of shots that need to be taken but shoot each wedding as we see it, this makes every wedding individual just like the couple. We pride ourselves on providing each of our clients with a friendly, attentive and professional service throughout. We are always available for our clients should they have any questions and very proud to be able to say that many of the couples whose weddings we have documented remain friends long after the wedding day.
