Friend of the wedding blog Jess Petrie Photography put this vibrant and haunting set of images together. I asked her about the inspiration behind the day.

Jess says: I have had a styled bridal shoot in mind where I would take the most stunning dress and the bride wearing it off to the sea and completely trash it. I am a big fan of wedding magazines and blogs. I like to look for inspiration through different things. We don’t very often see our brides getting married by the sea, and if they do it’s abroad. But why? Ok we don’t have the best weather but we do have some stunning beaches, and they are free!

I chose Filey Bay, North Yorkshire, because it’s somewhere I used to visit often with my grandparents as a child and I have a lot of good memories here. The sand is very soft and golden and the beach stretches right out, as far as you can see. There are a lot of stunning views with the cliffs at either end, and of course the North Sea.

Having brides on a budget in mind and the fact that the wedding dress was going to be ‘trashed’ I hunted for the dress through a number of charity shops, and I was amazed at how many wedding dresses they actually had and how beautiful and like new they all were! I came across the perfect dress: a cross between Victorian and Vintage, simply stunning £25.00.

The pearl necklace and earrings I also got from a charity shop for a few quid. The hat I made with a hair clip I got for £2.99 from a charity shop, netting from a material shop £1.25, and bits of fabric that I had lying around at home.

The vintage bouquet was kindly put together and donated to me by Debbie Wilde at Wilde Flowers, Dronfield. Voila!.

The shoot, like the majority of my work has a story behind it, and not a very happy one, but it went well with the trashing of the dress, dramatic nature and artistic creation behind the whole thing. I suppose you have to see the art in it to really appreciate it; a bit like you would a painting.

The shoot went amazingly well, despite it being a heat-wave on a Saturday, which made it an extremely busy place, but it turned out perfect.
