They played my Brides Up North Tweet Up Yorkshire with aplomb, and now they are back to tell you all about themselves. This afternoon I chat to the fabulous foursome that is The Dotted Crotchets.
.
.
What is your background? How did The Dotted Crotchets meet?
.
We all met while studying at the RNCM in Manchester and have been performing with each other for over 5 years in various groups. After performing with other quartets at weddings and events we noticed that the songs which went down the best were the pop songs and so we decided to form The Dotted Crotchets and focus on playing popular chart hits that wouldn’t usually be associated with a string quartet.
.
We also like to dress to suit the occasion. Although string quartets traditionally wear dinner jackets with bow ties or all black, we also provide a very popular option of less formal attire, with colourful dresses for the ladies and suits for the men, if that is more in keeping with the style of your wedding or event.
.
.
Are you all classically trained?
.
We have all graduated with a BMus degree having spent 4 years studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. While we are classically trained we also enjoy performing other styles of music including jazz and pop.

.
.
What instruments do you play?
.
The string quartet is made up of four instruments; two violins, a viola and a cello, however we can also provide a string trio which doesn’t have a second violin. Other group formations are also possible, for example we have just been booked as a string trio plus piano, so do get in touch if you are interested in having different instruments.

What sort of music do you play?
.
Our selection of chart hits range from The Beatles to Greenday and Coldplay to Lady Gaga, so there is hopefully something for everyone to enjoy. As well as the more contemporary songs we also have a large selection of easy listening and classical music, which is sometimes more suitable for the ceremony, and we are able to accompany hymns during a church service.
.
.
{Make sure to have a listen… you might recognise a few tunes…}
.
.
What if a bride and groom would like a particular song that you don’t already play?
.
We love performing at weddings which are individual to the couple so for a small cost we are able to arrange any song for you that we don’t already have to make your day even more unique. Recent requests have included songs by Oasis, The Eurhythmics and Bruno Mars.
.
.
Where are you based and are you prepared to travel?
.
We are based in Manchester and travel is included for venues within 30 miles, however for a small charge we are more than happy to travel across the UK to perform for your wedding. We all have passports so vacation weddings are also a possibility!

.
Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?
.
We like to work with each individual couple to tailor our service to their specific requirements so I would ask any interested couples to get in touch and I will create a personalised quote. Our rates are competitively priced and the string trio provides a more affordable option for couples on a tighter budget.

Can you do a discount for Brides Up North readers?
.
Brides Up North readers can request two songs of their choice, which are not already in our repertoire, to be specially arranged for their wedding free of charge. Just mention Brides Up North when you contact us.
.
.
How can Brides Up North hear an example of your music?
.
We have some sound clips on our website (www.thedottedcrotchets.co.uk) and we are hoping to add more soon, however I would highly recommend coming to listen to us live. Please join our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/dottedcrotchets) to keep up to date with any upcoming wedding fayres we will be performing at.

.
Any particularly memorable weddings that you have played at?
.
One of our favourite weddings was for a couple who booked us for their ceremony and drinks reception, and we also provided a ceilidh band and jazz group to perform in the evening. In total we were there for about 14 hours! It was a lot of fun though and we were treated to a yummy meal in between sets.

.
Why do you read Brides Up North?
.
Before setting up The Dotted Crotchets we were inspired by the beautiful and unique weddings which were featured on wedding blogs such as Brides Up North, and we wanted to be able to provide music that was equally as unique. We also love that this blog highlights the huge variety of talent that the north offers and are very proud to be part of it.
.
.
Is there anything else that Brides Up North should know?
.
We are currently in the process of setting up a Bollywood string quartet so if you are an Asian bride keep your eyes peeled…

Music to my ears!
