Having previously chatted by email, I recently met Featured Supplier Ashley Tyrrell Make Up Artist at my Brides Up North Yorkshire Tweet Up.  What a stunner!  This lady is quite the advocate for her own skills.

.

Today, I talk to this talented make up artist (who is based in Leeds but has car, will travel) about the art of a painted face, the dos and don’ts of your wedding day war paint and how she can help.

How did you become a make up artist?

.

My make up career started in 2005 at Central Manchester College of Health and Beauty where I gained an ITEC in beauty therapy. Here, I touched on make up and found that I loved the creativity and playfulness of it. I wanted to know more. I went on to a local collage to study media and theatrical make up which then lead me to the School of Make Up. In 2008 I attended an intensive ‘Combined Media’ course. This included media/fashion and editorial make up, media/ fashion and editorial hair as well as fashion styling. I also studied prosthetics and special effects make up. I received in depth tuition from some of the most respected and experienced make up designers in the industry.

What services to you offer?

.

I offer brides and the bridal party hair and make up for their special day. If it is a large bridal party or an early ceremony sometimes a team of hair and make up artists is a good idea. I have made some good friends in the industry and sometimes a small team is needed.

.

What products do you use and why?

.

My make up kit contains many of the finest products available, each product is picked for its quality and suitability. I use products such as MAC, Chanel and Illamasqua. I am passionate about beneficial and pure products and I am against animal testing so I use natural products such as Bare Minerals and Arbonne.

Why should a bride to be have her make up professionally applied?

.

Many brides come to me for their wedding make up to take the stress off themselves and achieve a fresh look which will last all day, helping you feel great and look amazing! The make up I apply will be natural to the eye but flawless and heavy enough for your photography, which is the lasting memory of your day.

.

Do you do a make up trial?

.

I would recommend a make up trial around 4 weeks prior to your wedding day. This is an opportunity to meet each other and discuss looks colours and themes for the day. Together we will develop a perfect hair and make up look. Other members of the bridal party are welcome to join in too.

What sets your business apart from your competitors?

.

I offer a competitively priced professional service, tailored to suit each bride’s needs. I am a fun and friendly individual with many years of working with people.

.

.

What are your favourite wedding make up looks?

.

I love a romantic, fresh faced look, with a focus on the eyes. Soft make up and hair is my favourite look. For brides to be it depends on the bride’s personality, theme and their dress as to what make up look we create.

.

.

What are your top wedding make up tips for a bride to be?

.

My top tips would be:

.

Prep the skin on the run up to the wedding by using good skin care.

.

Use primers on the day to help make up look nicer and last longer.

.

Take time to apply make up.

.

Choose your look carefully.

.

Finally, eyebrows…They frame your eyes!

.

Make up no-nos:

.

Don’t try to change yourself – its still you!

Are there any really memorable weddings that you have worked on?

.

YES! I recently worked on an old  friend! We have known each other and played together since youngsters (I am a little older than her). I was also one of her bridesmaids! It was a busy morning with 7 of us to get ready before a midday service.  Another make up artist, Rhiannan Adamson, helped out on the day.  She mainly did the bridesmaids hair and helped me get ready in the mad rush! The reception as held in a marquee in garden at the house she grew up in! It brought back loads of my childhood memories. It was a very magical and special day.

Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price? Any discounts?

.

It is quite hard to have a fixed price because each bride wants something different, I start from £100 to cover products, time and travel. Price per person is better on larger bridal parties. There is definitely a discount for Brides Up North readers.  Please ask.

.

.

Where are you located and do you travel?

.

Yes, I travel.

.

I have lived in Leeds for the past three years, but am originally from Lancashire. I am back and forth along the M62 quite often. I had a wedding in Rotherham in June and have one at The Great Hall at Mains in November. It’s a beautiful venue and cant wait to get there!

Is there anything else that Brides Up North should know?

.

I have been lucky enough to work on some fashion shoots and catwalk so my make up skills range from natural and everyday to catwalk and avant guard. I have also been to young girls parties to paint nails and apply a bit of make up, suitable for children. One to one make up tutorials are also popular.

.

I am also available to meet over a coffee to show you the Arbonne range of natural products first hand or I can organise a party so you can also show your friends the skin care and make up range.

.

.

Why do you read the wedding blog?

.

I love the blog and wedding industry, its so exciting! Brides Up North features loads of great suppliers and showcases some beautiful real weddings.
