As a child, I was obsessed by the tale of The Cottingley Fairies. Do you know it? In brief, back in the early twentieth century two young cousins, Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, photographed the “fairies” living at the bottom of their garden and caused a huge media storm.

Turns out it was all a hoax. There is no such thing as fairies. Or is there…?

Today on the wedding blog, a very ethereal styled bridal shoot, drawing inspiration from the little people. With not a fancy dress prop in sight, the team, lead by Laura of Perfect Choice Planning create a very magical mood. Be inspired!

Laura takes us behind the scenes: Our fairy inspired bridal inspiration shoot was the initial idea of our two wonderful photographers, Emma from Emma B Photography and Jo from Joanne Spencer Photography, who wanted the opportunity to create a styled shoot to show off their talents and, most of all, just have fun.

Their vision was to bring like-minded North West Suppliers together for a bridal inspiration shoot, the only problem being that it was the middle of the wedding season and these two talented photographers were in demand. This left no time to organise the shoot, so they asked Perfect Choice Planning to take over the organisation.

Emma and Jo had made some initial enquiries but we still needed several suppliers, not to mention models, on board to create the overall effect. Within a month, I had brought together a number of credible, enthusiastic suppliers, with the help of the North-West Brides Up North Tweet Up, where I had found the majority of the suppliers.
.
We had beautiful dresses and hair accessories supplied by Glamour Bridal & Prom, handmade shrugs from Wrapor, attention-grabbing bouquets by Love Bouquets, perfect hair & make-up by Rachael McNeela, and of course stunning photography from Joanne Spencer Photography and Emma B Photography.

Scheduled for 4th September 2011, it was decided that it would be lovely to do an afternoon to twilight shoot so we could use the magic of twilight to enhance our fairy theme. To create this theme, we used fairy lights on trees, soft make-up with natural hair styling and unusual and fairy-like (as opposed to princess) dresses, choosing accessories and bouquets to match the ethereal style of the shoot.

The afternoon started with preparation in the house I live in with my boyfriend (who helped on the shoot as a general handy-man) and his parents (who very kindly allowed us to use their house). I provided tea and cake refreshments for the suppliers, whilst Rachael McNeela did a wonderful job with the hair and make-up and the photographers and I chose dresses, accessories, shrugs and bouquets to go on each model. Both models were very different and so, suited different styles. This enabled us to use a wide variety of beautiful dresses on the shoot.

We used two locations; the first being a walkway to Dean Wood in Orrell and the second being Fairy Glen (aptly named) in Parbold, just a five minute drive away.

All suppliers worked so well together on the day, lending a hand to carry dresses and accessories to the locations, as well as dressing the “brides”, moving fairy lights and suggesting creative uses for their products. As you can see from the fantastic and creative images produced, the shoot was a complete success.

I really enjoyed planning, coordinating and facilitating the whole shoot from start to finish and was pleased to be part of creating such a gorgeous representation of fairy inspiration.
