How did Perfection Nail & Beauty begin?
.
I did a two year City and Guilds beauty therapy course at South Tyneside College from leaving school in 1989 to 1991. The course covered make-up application and theatrical make-up. I started to do wedding make-up after setting up on my own in 1992 after working in 2 North East salons – the first salon being Fenwicks Newcastle. I am qualified to teach beauty and make-up and I have also owned my own salon. I am freelance now.

What services do you offer?
.
I offer beauty as well as make-up including Biosculpture gel nail extensions and overlays for hands and feet. I also offer spray tans. I do waxing including eyebrow waxing and tinting. I specialise in airbrush make-up using Dinair which is a water based airbrush foundation which looks great on photos. I use a mixture of make-up in my kit, such as Screenface, M.A.C, and my favourite Anthony Braden which is a salon brand I have used for years.

Why should a bride have her make-up professionally done?
.
I feel that for brides this is a very relaxing part of the actual day. You can have all the massages and relaxing treatments beforehand but to have the make-up done on the day takes away a lot of the stress. Apart from that – airbrush looks so lovely on camera, and lasts all day. It is now becoming one of the essential must haves for weddings.

Do you offer a make-up trial?
.
Yes I do a make-up trial – its recommended just for piece of mind and to ensure there are no allergies to the make-up I am using. However, for brides living abroad its not always possible to fit in a trial so I have gone in blind and everything has been great.

What is your favourite bridal make-up look?
.
I will always love the simplicity of the fresh faced bridal look as it is timeless but with a little Hollywood glamour of the winged liner and natural false lashes, rose blush and a pink gloss. I also love to do a really strong lip colour with minimal eye make-up with exaggerated eyeliner. I love a challenge.

What are your top five wedding make-up tips for Brides Up North?
.
Look after your skin, drink plenty of water and try to ease up on alcohol in the lead up to the wedding – alcohol dries out the skin and leads to puffiness under the eyes or dark circles.
.
Easier said than done – but try not to stress when things don’t go right with the planning – stress usually results in the skin bearing the brunt of it: spots or flakiness.

Trial a spray tan well ahead of the wedding – don’t leave it to chance and get it done just before the wedding. I have seen so many problems with spray tans on the wedding day that I have had ………..
……to correct with make-up. Have a spray tan at least two days before your big day.

Those paper powder books are ideal to mop up any oiliness or shine on the skin – and small enough to fit in a purse.
.
If you are going to cry – remember to use the corner of the tissue to absorb the tears – don’t rub eyes!
Consider having your eyebrows shaped – this will make the eye make-up look more flattering and …….brows frame the eyes – I do a fantastic brow shape treatment which will completely transform the way …….your brows look.

And your no-nos?
.
If you are wearing white – a dark tan will look way too dark – go for a nice light glow – make-up can add more colour which will look nice and natural.
.
Talons with French manicures look false – a mid length nail will look so more flattering and pretty with a French manicure.
.
Don’t have your brows or any other facial waxing the day before the wedding – the skin will be too sensitive and will look pink on the day.

Are there any really memorable weddings that you have done the make-up for?
.
I have done so many – everyone has been special and I have enjoyed it so much. I remember the ones where everyone is relaxed and lots of laughing – they are my favourite. I have also known some brides go for a jog on the morning of the wedding – they have been so chilled out. Also the late brides have not been forgotten – rare – but very stressful!

Can you give Brides Up North an idea on price?
.
Prices for bridal airbrush are £65 and a trial is £40 – but there will be travel costs to add depending on location. I am located in Sunderland but I am prepared to travel anywhere in the North East although there may be a minimum of three make-ups for longer distances.
