Anddddd… its Thursday! How in the bejeezus did that happen? Its a good day people – just one more day to the weekend and an AMAZING Real Wedding to share with you on the wedding blog this morning, sent in by my wedding photographer friend the super talented – see for yourselves! – James Melia Photography.
.
Lisa and Russell’s Real Wedding is an absolute master class in understated elegance and almost has a French feel to it, such is the sophisticated and romantic vibe of their day.
.
C’est chic – Yorkshire style. The best type of style that there is.

The lovely Lisa, this morning’s bride, says: We got engaged in the sea off the tiny island of Anti-Paxos in July 2009 and married on 10th September 2011 at All Souls’ Church in Leeds and then went on to the Angel Inn at Hetton.

Russell attends All Souls’ church and we are both friends with the lovely vicar Alice Snowden. For the reception we chose the Angel Inn, where we’d been a couple of years before to celebrate Russell’s birthday. We knew it was the right place for our wedding reception: the food is out of this world, the staff friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere incredibly romantic. It was a dream location in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

We tried to pick things we loved rather than obsessing over whether things matched. In the end the colours sort of clustered around a natural, organic, or even wild palette: ivory, deep blue, dark green, teal, slate grey and so on.

I chose a Ritva Westenius dress from Amy Louise Bridal in Nantwich. It was quite 1950s in style but full length (I’m too short for tea-length style!). My bridesmaids both picked their own dresses. Jessica (20) wore a navy blue strapless dress from Coast. Lily (11) wore an ivory dress from BHS.

I carried a bouquet of ivory avalanche roses, ivory freesias, eryngium and eucalyptus by Leafy Couture in Otley.

Jo Bilham of Huddersfield did my makeup and James Melia Photography was there to capture all the action! Both James and Jo worked as a great team to make me look and feel beautiful – I couldn’t imagine the day without them.

As a special touch, we had prosecco at the back of church for everyone to enjoy, regardless of whether or not they were coming on for the meal.

Our incredibly talented and great friend, Ben Saunders (Director of Music, Diocese of Leeds), played the organ at the wedding.

Russell wore the beautiful pocket watch that had belonged to my late brother and had been passed down from my Mum’s great grandfather.

I travelled in style in a beautiful classic 1949 Rover, courtesy of Barry Nuttall, Skipton (Chauffeur Driven Classic Car Hire).

After the ceremony we enjoyed a fabulous evening meal at The Angel Inn at Hetton. We did take cds to accompany the meal but in the excitement of the day they stayed in the boot of my Dad’s car – oops! The sound of conversation and laughter was all we needed.

The cake was a classic round 3-tier by Maria Webster, Bradford, (fruit, lemon, Victoria sponge) cake with ivory icing. It was finished with blue ribbons and faux pearls around the base of each tier.

After the wedding, we had a magical three weeks travelling around California in a Mustang convertible, exploring both cities (San Francisco, Santa Monica) and countryside (Yosemite, Sequoia); we also enjoyed the finer side of life in the lush wine regions.

I can’t pick a favourite part of the day. How about the beginning, the end and everything in between!?

My top tip for other Brides Up North is that the day will be fantastic, whatever happens, so don’t worry about things you can’t control, like not being able to talk at length to everyone – you will be in demand. Just enjoy having the people you love around you sharing in this incredible day!
