Afternoon all! A burst of Real Wedding freshness to welcome you to Friday! I don’t know about you, and I keep saying this (like if I say it enough then it will actually be true!) but I am starting to feel ever so slightly hopeful that Spring might finally be on its way. This Winter seems to have been an ice age! What better way to encourage such notions than a pretty bride’s big day, filled with smiles and blooms, and all completely DIY, sent to me by photographer Emma Richards.

Let’s hear from Ruth, today’s bride: We got engaged at Yellowstone National Park, America on 25 July 2009 and were married on 16 April 2011 at All Saints Church, Cawthorne, Barnsley.

I chose a full length, champagne coloured wedding gown with lace detail, and my bridesmaids wore purple knee length dresses from M&Co. Menswear was by Carl Stewart.

The special thing about our big day was that we made absolutely everything ourselves! Everything was completely DIY and made by myself, family and friends, including our invitations, table plan, cake, flowers, place cards, table names and menu cards. We didn’t have favours as we donated money to a local charity, close to our hearts.

My favourite part of the day was seeing my husband’s face as I walked down the aisle.

We honeymooned in London for 3 days after the wedding, then the Maldives in August for 10 days. Bliss!

My advice for other Brides Up North would be make sure that you take 5 minutes with your husband at some point during the day just to take it all in, breathe and have a cuddle!

Congratulations Ruth & James!
